Situated adjacent to the Base Wagga of the Royal Australian Air Force, the Wagga Wagga Airport is both a military and public airport run by the City Council of Wagga Wagga. It is currently on a 30-year lease from the Department of Defense, and is still being used by the military to transport passengers or freight. In 2009, the airport's name was considered to be the world's third most weird-sounding.
History
Although the airport was built by Wagga Wagga City Council in 1937, the control was given to the Royal Australian Air Force. In 1992, using the funds derived from its 30-year lease from the government of Australia, the airport underwent an upgrade project wherein the runway was improved to accommodate a Boeing-737.
Since 2009, the airport has undergone series of upgrades.
Runways
Wagga Wagga Airport operates with two runways. The first one, 05/23, has an asphalt surface and measures 1,768m in length. The second one, 12/30, is a surfaced with clay and measures 1,526m long.
Terminals
The airport has only one passenger terminal for the two airlines that service it. In April 2010, the draft of the master plan for the improvement of the airport facilities for the next 20 years was released. Part of that plan is the construction of a new terminal.

The two passenger airlines that operate on the airport include the QantasLink which flies to Sydney, and the Regional Express which fly to Sydney and Melbourne.

The airport can be accessed through cars or taxis. Car and taxi rental service desks can be found inside the terminal. For those who have their own vehicles, there's secured car park that charges A$7.50 per day. Undercover parking is also available, with prices starting from A$15 per day.
