Two Qantas Senior Officials Leave The Company

14th Dec 2014

The departure of the airline's two senior officials is part of the company's transformation program.

Effective January 2015, Gareth Evans will replace Simon Hickey as head of Qantas International, while Andrew David will take the place of Lyell Strambi as the head honcho of Qantas Domestic operations.

Gareth Evans currently serves as the airline's Chief Financial Officer, while Andrew David is the company's current Chief Operating Officer.

The airline's CEO, Alan Joyce, was quoted as saying that the reshuffling of senior management positions in the company will enable the company to find a better foundation for a much robust, more sustainable, and more profitable company.

He was optimistic that the new leadership of both Mr. Evans for International and Mr. David for Domestic operations will deliver favorable results to the company as it moves forwards to the future.

The post to be vacated by Gareth Evans will be assigned to Tino La Spina, the current Deputy Chief Financial Officer.

John Gissing, the current QantasLink CEO, will become the Group Executive of Associated Airlines and Services.

The shift to new management structure will take effect by January 1, 2015, but complete transformation is expected to be in place by March.

Hickey had worked for Qantas for ten years, while Strambi stayed with the airline for six years.

Alan Joyce acknowledged the two men's contribution to the company. He praised their leadership as heads of international and domestic operations of the airline.

The airline saw its last major management restructuring program in 2012.
