One of Australia's busiest regional airports, the Dubbo Airport, also called Dubbo City Regional Airport, is located 5km from the city of Dubbo, New South Wales.

History

Since 1920, although it wasn't officially an airport during that time, airplanes have been landing on what is known now as Dubbo Airport. It was only in 1935 when the land for the construction of a new airport was purchased.

During the Second World War, the airport was redeveloped to be used for military purposes. Then, in 1969, its runway was improved and a new terminal was opened a year later, along with the transfer of the airport's ownership to the City Council of Dubbo.

Runways

Dubbo Airport has two asphalt-paved runways - 05/23 and 11/29. The shorter of the two, 11/29, is 1,067m long, while the other one is 1,708m long.

Terminals

The airport has one terminal building which underwent a $3.8-million worth renovation project last 2006, to accommodate up to 250,000 passengers per year. The features that were added include a departure hall, an arrivals area with one baggage carousel, six check-in desks, administration offices, pick-up/drop-off lanes, and improved security systems. Other facilities and amenities were also made available for the convenience of the passengers.

Flights and Destinations

At present, there are two airlines servicing the airport, QantasLink and Regional Express, which carry passengers to Sydney and Broken Hill, New South Wales. Virgin Australia is also considering this airport for their services, although they haven't confirmed it up to now. Nevertheless, with the airline's purchase of several ATR 72 aircrafts just recently, it is expected that they will soon launch their services to the different regional airports in the country, including the Dubbo Airport.

Transport To and From the Airport

Five car rental companies are currently operating on the airport to serve the passengers who want to go from Dubbo Airport to the town center. These include Avis, Budget, Country Car Hire, Hertz, and Thrifty. On the other hand, for those who have their own motorcycles or cars, the airport has a secured car park near the terminal, which has spaces for vehicles of such kind. Parking costs $48 per week, or $8 per day.
