Qantas Boosts In-Flight Entertainment Service

25th Jul 2014

The state-owned flag carrier has upped the ante in its effort to keep its loyal customers and lure more air travelers to fly with them by boosting its in-flight entertainment service.

Starting this August, the airline will boost its menu offering by adding 77 more hours to its movie lineup, providing customers more choices especially on Hollywood blockbusters.

The airline Digital and Entertainment team headed by Jo Boundy has doubled the number of Hollywood flicks available for viewing on-board. Additionally, 20 more hours of TV viewing are at stake and several box sets.

Boundy also boasted about the airline's QView portal at the lounge, wherein passengers can take a sneak peek at the extensive in-flight entertainment menu offering.

She was overjoyed upon learning how popular the monthly IFE guide found in their website is based on the visitors' stats. She is also hinting that they might considering adding the IFE guide to the QView portal as well, including movie trailers to afford passengers a preview of the movie flicks they intend to watch up on-board.

Currently, QView portal is only available in domestic lounges across Australia. Soon, the service will also be available in its international lounges in Hong Kong, Los Angeles, Singapore, etc.

Another service that will soon be offered aboard its flights is the latest news bulletin, to be provided by Sky News just before taking off.

Olivia Wirth, Qantas Group Executive for Brand Marketing and Corporate Affairs, said that many passengers, especially business travelers, want to read the latest news of the day while on board. They want to get updated on what's happening around the country wherever they might be in the country.

Sky News will deliver the news 24/7 from its headquarters in Australia and beamed live to the aircraft before it leaves the gate at any airport.

The airline executive also disclosed that they are also tapping the service of Foxtel, which dishes out a select menu of premium lifestyle, drama, food and entertainment programs, plus live Fox Sports coverage.

The collaboration with Sky News will also enable passengers in lounges overseas to get the latest international and local news live from Australia.
