Qantas To Mount Additional ANZAC Flight To Turkey

6th Jan 2015

Qantas has resolved to add another special flight to Istanbul, Turkey during the commemoration of ANZAC's 100th anniversary which will take place in the former capital of the mighty Ottoman Empire.

It will carry Australians who want to celebrate with their counterparts from allied countries who fought during the First World War (WWI) to topple the once-mighty Ottoman Empire.

ANZAC was an army corps composed mostly of troops from Australia and New Zealand who fought for the Allies in the Gallipoli campaign against the imperial army.

The special flight will be via a reconfigured wide-body B747 aircraft which used to be the workhorse of Qantas fleet. It will leave on April 21, 2015 with 364 passengers from Sydney to Istanbul via Perth.

The centenary commemoration of ANZAC on April 25 in Istanbul marks the day when ANZAC force landed in Gallipoli Peninsula on the same date in 1915.
