QantasLink to Whyalla to Improve Local Tourism

9th Apr 2015

A new QantasLink service bound for Whyalla should improve regional tourism, Damien Kitto, chief executive of Adelaide Convention Bureau says.

The new service will start next Monday and will fly 1300 passengers every week from Adelaide to Whyalla and back.

Speaking about it, Kitto said:

?While most of the larger conventions rely on infrastructure in Adelaide, the regions benefit in the pre and post-event touring opportunities that are also available.?

He also added that the Convention Bureau will be encouraging tourists to visit regional centers that could mesh well with the conference theme. As an example, he mentioned a group of delegates from the last year?s World Aquaculture Conference that took the time to pay a visit to Port Lincoln.

New Service Announced Late Last Year

QantasLink Adelaide-Whyalla service was announced late last year by the CEO of QantasLink John Gissing, who said:

?We have great confidence in the Whyalla market and we?re really looking forward to starting this service.?

City Council Mayor of Whyalla Jim Pollock said that he expects the service to generate new opportunities and reasons for people to visit experience and do business in his town.

?Council?s $3 million airport upgrade is a testament to our commitment to making Whyalla a great place to live, work and invest. Council welcomes and looks forward to QantasLink?s new service which will help increase and promote business and tourism opportunities in the city and region?, Pollock said.

QantasLink is a regional Australian brand of Qantas Airlines and the affiliate member of the One World Airline Alliance.
