Albany Regional Airport (ALH) serves Albany in Western Australia, and the City of Albany says it is 11 kilometres from the Albany central business district. The City runs the airport, and this site's schedule records show direct flights from Albany Regional Airport to Perth with Regional Express (Rex).
Plan around hire car booths that the City says are not always staffed on Sundays, a carry-on bag that Rex will offload at the gate if it is over the limits, and, if you head out to Torndirrup National Park, a coastline the Parks and Wildlife Service says has a notorious record for accidents and deaths.
The City of Albany operates the airport, and Airservices Australia's aerodrome entry for Albany, issued 3 September 2026, names the City as the aerodrome operator and describes the airport as a Security Controlled Airport. The City's Conditions of Use call the airport Albany (Harry Riggs) Regional Airport. Harry Riggs was a president of the Albany Shire Council and a former Flying Officer who flew Lancaster bombers in the Second World War and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross.
The terminal building is the John Bell Terminal, named and opened on 16 May 1998. The City describes John Bell as a well-known Albany aviator who had been a spotter pilot for a whaling company and helped have the whaling station turned into a museum.
The Airservices aerodrome entry lists a taxi, hire car, passenger lounge, refreshments and toilets among the passenger facilities at Albany. Airservices notes that taxis and hire cars listed this way may need to be called by phone after arrival, and that where refreshments are listed there is usually some limit on the hours, with anything from a full meal service to a drink vending machine.
The City of Albany's airport page lists two taxi companies: Albany City Cabs & Transport on (08) 9841 7000 and Albany Taxis on (08) 9844 4444. It also lists Albany Tours for charter transfers between the airport and the city.
Budget is among the car hire companies the City lists at the airport, on (08) 9841 7799, with onsite hours of 8am to 5pm, and it also takes bookings online. The City says the hire car booths are not always staffed on Sundays, although the companies will meet flights when they hold a booking. It advises calling ahead so your car or four-wheel drive is ready to pick up.
By road, the City says Transwa runs coach services from Perth to Albany that end at the Railway Station on Proudlove Parade, and that the coach trip takes about six hours via Williams, Gnowangerup or Bunbury.
The City says the car park uses a ticketless system: you pay and enter your vehicle's registration plate. For a receipt, the City's page links to an e-receipts service that uses your plate number and the receipt number shown when you paid, or you can ring airport staff on (08) 6820 3777 and choose option 5.

Rex's frequently asked questions page says it operates all its services at Perth Airport from Terminal Two (T2). For flight enquiries and bookings, the City's page gives Rex's own number, 13 17 13.
Transport WA's air services page, updated 24 April 2026, says the Albany-Perth-Albany air route is operated by Rex to 2 July 2028. It is one of the State's fully regulated routes, where the State awards exclusive rights through a competitive tender.
Albany and Perth are both in Western Australia, which does not observe daylight saving, and Queensland and the Northern Territory do not either. New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia, Tasmania and the Australian Capital Territory do.
At regional airports in Western Australia, Rex says its airport check-in desk closes 30 minutes before the scheduled departure time and the boarding gate closes 15 minutes before. It recommends handing in checked bags 60 minutes before departure. A passenger who is not at the gate by the closing time is refused boarding, and Rex says the fare is forfeited.
Web check-in opens 48 hours before the scheduled departure time and closes 60 minutes before it. With carry-on bags only, you can go straight to the gate with a printed or digital boarding pass; with checked bags, you drop them at the airport check-in desk. Rex says passengers with special requirements must check in at the airport.
Rex's Travel Requirements page says passengers aged 18 and over must show an acceptable form of identification in a name that matches the booking. Without photo identification, a passenger must show two forms of non-photo identification, and Rex accepts electronic copies shown on a device.
Passengers aged 17 or under need no identification when travelling with, or presented at check-in by, an identifiable guardian. Rex's Conditions of Carriage ask for satisfactory photo identification at check-in.
Check Rex's baggage allowance page for the cabin and checked allowances before you pack. Rex says carry-on bags may be weighed and measured.
A carry-on bag that is over the limits at the boarding gate is offloaded and travels as checked baggage on the next available flight, and you collect it from the airport when it arrives. Rex suggests asking its staff to test a doubtful bag against the size and weight limits before check-in closes. It also reserves the right to offload checked bags within the allowance when the aircraft is restricted in how much baggage it can carry.
Rex asks for at least 48 hours' notice of special requirements, such as a wheelchair, given at booking or through its Customer Contact Centre on 13 17 13. With later notice, Rex says it cannot guarantee the resources will be available.
For Albany, the City says Rex sends a text message (SMS) about delays and cancellations to customers whose check-in has not yet opened. Closer to departure, customers are told at check-in and kept updated by announcements in the terminal.
Rex's Conditions of Carriage list inclement weather among the events beyond its control and say arrival and departure times are not guaranteed. If Rex changes the schedule or cancels the flight you booked, you may cancel the ticket and get a full refund.
When it cancels, Rex says it will try to offer a seat on another flight, other transport such as a bus, or a flight to the nearest alternative Rex port, and it does not cover hotel or taxi costs. Its Flight Status and Disruptions page shows disruptions and cancellations forecast for today and tomorrow, though disruptions of less than 15 minutes and air traffic control delays may not be displayed.
The Australian Government's Cyber and Infrastructure Security Centre says an open charter or regular public transport air service must be security screened if it:
The Department of Home Affairs says its restrictions on liquids, aerosols and gels apply in these situations:
Where the restrictions apply, each container must be 100 mL or 100 g or less, and all containers must fit in one transparent, re-sealable plastic bag.
In its early tender advice, the City said it intended to replace the asphalt surface of the main runway, 14/32, during the 2026/2027 summer construction period. The advice gives the runway as 1,800 metres long and 30 metres wide, and says the works may also include drainage, pavement regrading and upgrades to the adjoining taxiways and apron.
A joint State and Commonwealth media statement of 4 June 2026 said a construction tender was open for upgrades to the runway, taxiways and aprons, to take heavier, more modern and more fuel-efficient aircraft, with the City managing the project. The statement said the design would also allow future development to support firefighting aircraft, including large air tankers.
The State's Building for Tomorrow project page shows the Albany Airport Upgrade in the "In Planning" phase, administered by the Department of Transport and Major Infrastructure in partnership with the Federal Government and the City.
The National Anzac Centre is at 70 Forts Road in the Albany Heritage Park, and its website lists opening hours of 9am to 5pm, seven days a week, with last entry at 4pm. It is open on all public holidays except Christmas Day, and there is no timed entry. Visitors take on the identity of a real serviceman or servicewoman and follow their experience of the Great War.
Tickets for the Centre's interpretive experience are sold online, at the front counter in the Centre or at The Forts Store. The surrounding park holds the Princess Royal Fortress, where volunteers give talks at the Barracks building when available, and other memorials, among them the Desert Mounted Corps Memorial.
The Centre's website says Albany is hosting Western Australia's first bicentenary in 2026, marking the first place on the western side of Australia where Aboriginal and British people began living together. A year-long program of major cultural events is taking place in Albany.
The Menang people are the Traditional Owners of Torndirrup National Park. The Parks and Wildlife Service's Explore Parks page describes natural features shaped by the wind and waves of the Southern Ocean, with viewing platforms at The Gap and Natural Bridge that it calls safe and accessible. The page marks it as a park with no dogs allowed.
In the winter months, migrating whales may be seen from the cliffs. The page also points to the area's long whaling history and to the whaling museum at the old whaling station.
The same page warns that the Torndirrup coast has a notorious record of accidents and deaths from people slipping or being washed into the ocean by large waves, gusting winds or extra-large swells. It says rock fishing on this coastline is extremely dangerous and is not recommended.
