FlyPelican is the trading name of Pelican Airlines Pty Ltd, a regional airline that describes itself as 100% Australian owned and based in Newcastle. Its fleet page lists British Aerospace Jetstream 32 turboprops seating 19 passengers. At Sydney Airport (SYD), its flights leave from Terminal 3 and arrive at Terminal 2, a move of its departures that Sydney Airport calls temporary.

Terminals and check-in

Sydney Airport: leave from Terminal 3, arrive at Terminal 2

FlyPelican says that from 8 April 2025 its flights from Sydney leave from Terminal 3, with check-in in Terminal 3, and its flights into Sydney arrive at Terminal 2, where bags are collected. Sydney Airport's Terminal 2 upgrade page lists FlyPelican the same way: departures at Terminal 3, arrivals at Terminal 2.

Sydney Airport describes the move of FlyPelican's departures to Terminal 3 as temporary, during construction work on Terminal 2, and says the Terminal 2 upgrade will be completed by the end of 2026. Check the terminal with FlyPelican before you fly.

Newcastle Airport

FlyPelican says it operates from Newcastle Airport (NTL) at Williamtown, with check-in in the main check-in area. Staff give you the departure gate when you check in, and you then go through passenger screening to the departure lounge.

Canberra Airport

At Canberra Airport (CBR), domestic check-in is on Level 2 of the terminal building, and the airport places FlyPelican on the left as you enter. FlyPelican's check-in is at Counter 16 in the main check-in area. Its flights usually leave from Gate 3, but staff confirm the gate at check-in.

Gold Coast Airport

Gold Coast Airport (OOL) has one main terminal for domestic and international flights, and the airport puts domestic check-in and baggage drop at its northern end.

Cobar Regional Airport

At Cobar Regional Airport (CAZ), FlyPelican says its flights operate from the Cobar Airport Terminal building.

FlyPelican fare types and what each includes

As of October 2026, FlyPelican's fares and services page sets these rules for its fare types. The fees for changes, refunds and name changes are on that page.

On Pelican Corporate, Pelican Flyer and Pelican Saver fares, changes are made online on FlyPelican's website, and if the original fare conditions are not available on the new date, you pay the fare difference. Name changes on every fare type go through FlyPelican by phone on 02 4965 0111, Monday to Friday in office hours.

A child aged 2 to 11 needs their own ticket and seat. An infant aged 0 to 24 months travels in the arms or on the lap of an adult, and you specify the number of infants when booking. FlyPelican's Canberra and Gold Coast pages say Pelican Flexible and Pelican Corporate fares include pre-flight access to a domestic lounge at those airports, during the lounge's opening hours.

Checking in and boarding a FlyPelican flight

At the airport, FlyPelican's check-in opens 1 hour before departure and closes strictly 30 minutes before the scheduled departure time. The airline recommends checking in at least 45 minutes before departure and being at the departure gate lounge at least 15 minutes before departure. Groups are advised to arrive 60 minutes before departure.

Under the conditions of carriage, a passenger not checked in 30 minutes before departure counts as a no-show, and a passenger who is not at the gate before boarding closes may forfeit the fare.

FlyPelican launched online check-in on 25 August 2026 for all its regular public transport flights. It opens 48 hours and closes 60 minutes before departure, and you still show valid photo identification at the counter or the gate. Unaccompanied minors, passengers travelling with an infant and passengers with special needs check in in person at the airport.

Identification and unaccompanied minors

FlyPelican's conditions of carriage require photo identification and a copy of your itinerary at check-in. Children aged 12 to 16 need proof of age and identification at check-in.

FlyPelican accepts unaccompanied minors aged 9 to 11. They are booked by phone on 02 4965 0111, and the original unaccompanied minor form is brought to check-in.

Boarding by the aircraft steps

FlyPelican says passengers board by six aircraft steps, with no lift or ramp, and wheelchair help between the terminal and the aircraft is available on request. All passengers must be able to climb the six steps into the aircraft. Some situations need pre-approval from FlyPelican, and without an approval number obtained at least 2 working days before travel, uplift on the flight is not guaranteed.

FlyPelican baggage allowance

As of October 2026, FlyPelican allows one all-inclusive allowance covering both checked and carry-on baggage: 23 kg on Pelican Corporate and Pelican Flexible fares, and 20 kg on Pelican Flyer and Pelican Saver fares. The conditions of carriage give the Pelican Local fare the same 20 kg. Check the allowance on your booking with FlyPelican before you fly.

The carry-on item has to fit under the seat, and the conditions give its limits as a length of 32 cm, a height of 20 cm and a width of 18 cm, with a maximum of 4 kg. A larger bag (7 kg in one piece, or 10 kg in two pieces) can be carried to the aircraft, where it goes in the hold and is returned at the destination. Carry-on counts toward the 20 kg or 23 kg allowance.

The maximum weight of any one item is 32 kg. Oversize items and sporting equipment are carried within the allowance, and FlyPelican asks you to tell it about them, as it may refuse an item at the flight. The aircraft has an external cargo pod, which FlyPelican's fleet page names for skis, snowboards and golf clubs.

An infant has its own 7 kg allowance, and a car seat or personal mobility device the passenger needs is carried on top of the allowance.

Dangerous goods on FlyPelican

FlyPelican's dangerous goods page lists items not permitted on its aircraft under any circumstances, among them petrol or gas engine equipment, self-balancing boards, spillable batteries, gas cylinders, fire extinguishers, fireworks and flares. E-cigarettes are barred from checked and carry-on baggage, may be carried on your person, and cannot be used on board. Lithium-ion powered equipment over 100 and up to 160 watt-hours, and mobility-aid batteries, need FlyPelican's approval, and firearms and ammunition need 48 hours' notice.
