Gold Coast Airport (OOL) is at Bilinga on the Gold Coast, Queensland, and handles domestic and international flights in one main terminal. The terminal is open from 4am to 11pm daily, overnight stays inside it are not permitted, and a curfew restricts take-offs and landings between 11pm and 6am.
The airport runs on Queensland time all year, and Queensland does not observe daylight saving, while New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia, Tasmania and the Australian Capital Territory do. There is no train station at the airport: Translink buses run to it, and the airport operator suggests a bus or shuttle from Varsity Lakes or Helensvale train stations.
The airlines recorded on direct domestic flights from Gold Coast Airport are FlyPelican, Jetstar, Qantas and Virgin Australia. Direct domestic flights recorded from the Gold Coast go to these destinations, with the airlines recorded on each:
| Destination | Airport | Airlines recorded |
|---|---|---|
| Adelaide | Adelaide Airport (ADL) | Jetstar, Virgin Australia |
| Cairns | Cairns Airport (CNS) | Jetstar |
| Canberra | Canberra Airport (CBR) | Jetstar, Virgin Australia |
| Hobart | Hobart Airport (HBA) | Jetstar |
| Melbourne | Melbourne Airport (MEL) | Jetstar, Qantas, Virgin Australia |
| Melbourne | Avalon Airport (AVV) | Jetstar |
| Newcastle | Newcastle Airport (NTL) | FlyPelican, Jetstar |
| Perth | Perth Airport (PER) | Jetstar |
| Sydney | Sydney Airport (SYD) | Jetstar, Qantas, Virgin Australia |
Melbourne appears twice because flights are recorded to both Melbourne Airport and Avalon Airport. Check which of the two your booking names before you arrange onward travel.
Gold Coast Airport has one main terminal, and domestic and international flights both operate from it.
The terminal is open from 4am to 11pm daily, and entry is restricted outside those hours. Overnight stays inside the terminal are not permitted, so a traveller between flights overnight needs somewhere else to stay, such as Rydges Gold Coast Airport hotel, which the operator describes as just steps from the terminal.
Take-offs and landings are restricted between 11pm and 6am under the Air Navigation (Gold Coast Airport Curfew) Regulations 2018. The exceptions are limited and include emergency aircraft, some smaller jets and propeller aircraft, diversions and dispensations. The operator gives the curfew hours in Queensland time.
Domestic check-in and baggage drop-off are at the northern end of the terminal, where bags go in at the airline counters or kiosks, and the central security screening point comes next. Screening uses body scanners and x-ray for carry-on bags, and random explosive trace detection may also take place. Security has a family and assistance screening lane and communication boards at the checkpoints, and a private screening room is available on request.
The operator's general advice is that most domestic airlines want you at the check-in counter at least 60 minutes before departure, but your airline's own cut-off is the one that applies. Domestic gate numbers appear on the flight information screens 40 minutes before departure.
For a domestic-to-domestic connection, the steps are to collect any checked bags, check in at the airline counters at the northern end, and go through security. Arriving on an international flight and connecting to a domestic one, you proceed north as you exit the International Arrivals area to reach domestic check-in.
International departures start with domestic screening. You wait in the domestic departures lounge until the screens say "Please proceed to international", then go through international screening, and international gate numbers appear one hour before departure.
For a short break between flights, the operator notes that Kirra Beach is a short walk away and Coolangatta a short taxi or bus ride.
Gold Coast Airport operates on Queensland time, Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST), all year round. New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia, Tasmania and the Australian Capital Territory observe daylight saving; Queensland, Western Australia and the Northern Territory do not.
The airport stays on Queensland time through daylight saving. Of the destinations in the table above, Sydney, Newcastle, Canberra, Melbourne, Hobart and Adelaide are in places that observe daylight saving, and Cairns and Perth are not, so during daylight saving check the local time at each end of your flight.
Airservices Australia notes that during daylight saving the curfew operates on Queensland time, so New South Wales residents see aircraft movements until 12am instead of 11pm.
By car, Surfers Paradise is about 30 minutes from the airport and Byron Bay about 45 minutes.
Public transport to the airport is part of Translink, Queensland's integrated network, and Translink fares apply. You tap on and off with a contactless card or phone, a Go Card or a Go Explore Card, and Translink's information line is 13 12 30.
Since 7 September 2026, Route 777 has run as a limited-stop express service between Gold Coast Airport and West Burleigh Road at Stockland Burleigh Heads, connecting with the tram network at Burleigh Heads. The route changed on that date, so use Translink's Route 777 timetable for the current stops.
Route 760 runs between Gold Coast Airport and Varsity Lakes train station, from where trains go to Brisbane City, and its timetable was also updated on 7 September 2026.
There is no train station at the airport, and the G:link light rail does not reach it. Planning for Gold Coast Light Rail Stage 4, which would have run from Burleigh Heads to Coolangatta via Gold Coast Airport, was stopped on 1 September 2025 following a Queensland Government review. The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) says there will be no further planning for Stage 4 at this time.
The Queensland Government has announced GC Surfer, a metro-style service between Robina, Varsity Lakes, Burleigh Heads, Gold Coast Airport and Coolangatta, planned to be delivered by the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games. TMR's Gold Coast Transport Plan includes a new interchange at Gold Coast Airport as part of it, and in June 2026 the government said planning would continue towards a procurement process.
The taxi rank is at the southern end of the terminal near International Arrivals, across from Rydges Gold Coast Airport, with 13cabs and Black and White Cabs named as taxi companies. Uber picks up at the southern end just outside Domestic Arrivals and the operator names an Uber Lounge; other rideshare services, including DiDi and Shebah, use designated kerbside points near Departures.
Con-X-Ion Transfers runs an airport transfer service, with a desk and an e-kiosk at the airport.
The pick-up and drop-off zones are at the front of the terminal along Terminal Drive, for immediate pick-up and drop-off only. Parking directly in front of the terminal is not permitted, which the operator puts down to Commonwealth Government security regulations.
The car parks are open 24/7, and the parking products include Terminal Parking, Saver Parking, Budget Covered, Budget Uncovered, ParkFast and Premium Parking. There are bike racks in the long-term and short-term car parks, and car rental desks are inside the terminal.
The terminal has free Wi-Fi throughout, multi-currency automatic teller machines (ATMs), and baggage wrapping opposite the Virgin Australia check-in counters. Lockers are at the front of the terminal in the short-term car park.
Multi-faith prayer rooms are near the main security point opposite the domestic passenger screening area, in the Domestic Departures Lounge near Hungry Jack's, and in the International Departures Lounge on Level 2 near WHSmith. Smoking and vaping are prohibited inside, and smoking is allowed only in the designated outdoor areas: the northern end, the northern car park walkway, the centre walkway and the southern forecourt.
Shops the operator names include WHSmith, The Book Cellar, Boardriders, InMotion and Seed, and there is an Amcal+ Express pharmacy service and a terminal meeting room.
The operator lists the Virgin Australia Lounge, at the southern end of the terminal opposite Gate 18, and The Qantas Club, just to the left after security; both are domestic lounges. Entry rules and hours are for your airline to confirm.
The operator's accessibility section covers a Hidden Disabilities program with a Sunflower Lanyard pack, a sensory terminal map and a virtual tour. Boarding uses ramps or aerobridges where available.
An accessible drop-off zone is kerbside at the northern end of the terminal outside Departures. Mobility Friendly spaces in the short-term car park do not need a disability permit.
Tasmania, Western Australia and South Australia each set their own rules on the fruit, vegetables and food travellers bring in, and a rule for one does not carry over to another. Ginger shows the difference: Western Australia lists it among the items allowed in, and Tasmania does not permit it.
Tasmania's rules are applied by Biosecurity Tasmania, part of the Department of Natural Resources and Environment Tasmania. On arrival, some items need to be inspected by a Biosecurity Tasmania officer, who makes the final decision on whether an item is allowed into Tasmania. The agency's advice is to leave fresh food and other restricted items at home, or to declare or dispose of them on arrival.
Fresh fruit and vegetables are not permitted entry, including potatoes, fresh herbs, garlic, ginger and onion, and abalone is not permitted either. Plant-based foods are allowed if cooked, baked, hard frozen, canned, preserved, commercially dried or freeze-dried, or cooked and then dehydrated at home, but food dehydrated at home from raw is not, and the allowed foods have to be declared and inspected on arrival. Meat is allowed if it is commercially produced or killed in Australia for personal consumption, and it has to be declared.
Honey has to be commercially filtered to a maximum 0.42mm pore size and free of wax pieces and bee bits, unless it is unfiltered honey commercially produced in Tasmania in its original sealed packaging, and honeycomb not produced in Tasmania is not permitted. Biosecurity Tasmania is on 1300 368 550.
Western Australia's rules come from Quarantine WA, part of the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD). Quarantine risk material has to be declared to a quarantine inspector on arrival, and if you are in doubt about an item, you can declare it or put it in one of the bins at the airport when you arrive in Western Australia. Inspectors with sniffer dogs may check your baggage and hand luggage as you collect it from the carousel.
DPIRD says that generally no fresh fruit and vegetables are allowed, except listed items such as pineapple, peeled and diced watermelon, carrot, sweet potato, peeled pumpkin with the seeds removed and ginger, and those only if free of soil, pests and disease with no green growth or sprouting. Green salads and raw crustaceans are not permitted, and honey is prohibited unless certified on a Health Certificate, while cooked and tinned food, cakes, biscuits, cheese, milk, eggs and meat are allowed. Quarantine WA is on 08 9334 1800.
South Australia's requirements differ by the type of produce and the part of Australia you travel from, and fruit and vegetables at risk from fruit fly must be eaten or disposed of before you enter South Australia. Under the table for travellers from Queensland, fresh fruit, avocados and fruiting vegetables such as capsicum, chilli, eggplant and tomato are not allowed, and nor are citrus plants or soil.
The same table allows leafy vegetables, root vegetables free of soil with the tops removed, cut fresh herbs, washed or brushed soil-free potatoes, pineapple, and processed, dried, preserved, cooked, frozen and canned fruit and vegetables, along with dairy products, eggs, fresh and canned fish, poultry, sausage, salami, sliced meats and processed foods. For melons, spinach, silver beet, peas, beans, cucurbits such as cucumber, pumpkin and zucchini, and honey and beeswax, it says to call the Fruit Fly Hotline on 1300 666 010. South Australia's travelling restrictions page sets out the rules by the state you travel from.
The terminal is open from 4am to 11pm daily, and overnight stays inside it are not permitted. A curfew also restricts take-offs and landings between 11pm and 6am.
There is no train station at the airport, and the G:link light rail does not reach it; planning for the Stage 4 extension via the airport was stopped on 1 September 2025. The operator suggests a bus or shuttle from Varsity Lakes or Helensvale train stations, and bus Route 777 connects with the tram network at Burleigh Heads.
Gold Coast Airport runs on Queensland time, Australian Eastern Standard Time, all year round. It does not change for daylight saving, which New South Wales observes.
Since 7 September 2026, Route 777 has run as a limited-stop express service between the airport and Stockland Burleigh Heads, connecting with the tram network at Burleigh Heads. Route 760 runs between the airport and Varsity Lakes train station.
Domestic check-in and baggage drop-off are at the northern end of the terminal, before the central security screening point. Domestic gate numbers appear on the flight information screens 40 minutes before departure.
Tasmania does not permit fresh fruit and vegetables, and Western Australia generally does not allow them apart from listed items such as pineapple. South Australia's table for travellers from Queensland does not allow fresh fruit but does allow pineapple, and cooked or canned fruit and vegetables are allowed under each of the three states' rules, though Tasmania asks for them to be declared. Check the state's own list before you pack.
