The terminal at Bendigo Airport

The current terminal officially opened on 26 April 2024, and the Premier of Victoria's release from that day says it is about four times larger than the previous building. It has check-in, a departure lounge, and an indoor arrival area with baggage collection. The release says the landscaping and interpretive signage are by Djandak, with Djaara cultural and creative direction on the garden design and Djaara cultural advice on the signage.

Check-in and tickets at Bendigo Airport

The council recommends arriving at the terminal 1 hour before your scheduled departure. It says Qantas has strict processes for late passengers, with a firm 30-minute cut-off before scheduled departure at present.

The council says there are no on-site ticket sales and no customer service desk at the airport, and that ground handling crew are on site to help with arrivals and departures only. For flight information it points passengers to the Qantas website or call centre. Check your baggage allowance with Qantas before you pack.

Food, charging and other facilities

Peggy's Cafe in the terminal serves food, tea and coffee. Charging points are fitted throughout the terminal, and chargers are on sale there.

The terminal has toilets including parenting and accessible toilets, a hearing augmentation system, and a defibrillator on the wall between check-in and the departure lounge. Smoking is not allowed inside the terminal building: the council asks smokers to be outside and at least 5 metres away from the terminal and all other buildings.

Security screening rules

The Premier of Victoria's 2024 release lists "provision for future security screening" among the features of the new terminal. The two lists below are general rules, not statements about how screening runs at Bendigo Airport.

The Commonwealth's Cyber and Infrastructure Security Centre (CISC) says an air service that operates open charter or a regular public transport operation must be aviation security screened if it:

  • uses aircraft with a seating capacity of 40 or more persons
  • operates from an Australian designated, tier 1 or tier 2 security controlled airport
  • uses any aircraft departing from the same apron as a screened air service operating at a designated airport

The Department of Home Affairs applies its restrictions on liquids, aerosols and gels in these situations:

  • when departing Australia
  • when transiting through Australia from one country to another
  • when travelling on the domestic leg of a flight departing from an Australian international terminal
  • before boarding an inbound flight at its last point of departure before it reaches Australia

Where the restrictions apply, each container must be 100 mL or 100 g or less, and all containers must fit in one transparent, re-sealable plastic bag.

Getting to and from Bendigo Airport

There is no public transport operating to or from Bendigo Airport. The council lists taxis, car hire and on-site parking, and the terminal has drop-off and pick-up bays for private drivers and taxis.

Parking at Bendigo Airport

Parking is on site and paid at a pay-and-display meter, which can process multiple days. If you are ticketed for 12 consecutive days, the council says later days are complimentary on approval from airport staff.

The council's parking and transport page says that if your return flight is missed or cancelled you should contact it with your details, and it will make appropriate arrangements. For a cancelled flight it asks you to make contact during business hours.

Moving plants and plant products in Victoria and interstate

Agriculture Victoria says there are restrictions on moving certain regulated materials (plants, plant products, used packaging, agricultural equipment and soil) to minimise the spread of pests and diseases into Victoria's crop production areas. It also says interstate authorities may place restrictions on moving plants, plant products or related materials into their state. Check the rules of the state you are flying to before you pack plants or plant products.
