Paraburdoo Airport (PBO) is about 9 to 10 kilometres from Paraburdoo, a purpose-built mining town in the Shire of Ashburton in Western Australia (WA). The airport serves both Paraburdoo and Tom Price, with a bus covering the extra road journey to Tom Price. This site's schedule records show direct domestic flights from Paraburdoo Airport to Perth, with Qantas.
Parking at the airport is free of charge and car hire is available there, and Tourism WA puts Karijini National Park under two hours away by road. The things to plan around are the shuttle bus to Tom Price, which is booked and paid for online, and the park's own warnings about heat and flash floods.
As of September 2026, the Shire of Ashburton's Paraburdoo Airport page says the airport is owned and operated by Rio Tinto.
Airservices Australia's aerodrome entry, issued on 3 September 2026, names the aerodrome operator as Hamersley Iron Pty Ltd. It also lists Paraburdoo as a certified aerodrome.
Airservices Australia's aerodrome entry lists a passenger lounge, toilets, hire cars, refreshments and Telstra 4G mobile reception at Paraburdoo Airport. The entry does not say what the lounge offers or who may use it. Airservices notes that where refreshments are listed, the hours are usually limited and the offer can range from full meal service to a drink vending machine.
The same entry lists Paraburdoo as a security controlled airport, and directs enquiries about security screening requirements to the aerodrome manager.
The airport is about 9 to 10 kilometres from Paraburdoo, which Tourism WA puts at 10 minutes' drive. Tom Price is about 70 kilometres away by road, around 45 minutes' drive, and a shuttle bus runs between the airport and Tom Price town centre.

Go West Tours runs a shuttle bus between Paraburdoo Airport and Tom Price town centre, connecting with flights to and from Paraburdoo. At the airport the bus is parked beside the baggage claim area and leaves about 15 minutes after the flight arrives, and passengers collect their own bags and bring them to the bus. Go West gives the travel time as about 50 minutes.
Seats are booked online, and payment is taken at the time of booking. In Tom Price the bus stop is off Stadium Road in the Mitre 10 car park, alongside the bakery, and Go West asks you to choose a shuttle at least two hours before your flight is due to leave. Go West also tells shuttle passengers to check in their own luggage in the airport terminal.
Paraburdoo is the town the airport serves. The Shire lists a police station, the Royal Flying Doctor Service, a medical centre, a supermarket and accommodation at the local hotel among the town's services.

Paraburdoo and Perth are both in Western Australia, which does not observe daylight saving. Queensland and the Northern Territory do not either, while New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia, Tasmania and the Australian Capital Territory do.
As of September 2026, the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) has a Queensland fruit fly quarantine area in place for the South Perth outbreak: the area within 15 kilometres of the intersection of South Terrace and Sandgate Street, South Perth. Fruit grown in the quarantine area may be taken out of it to elsewhere in Western Australia only as DPIRD's quarantine area notice allows, and processing, cooking or freezing for at least 24 hours is one way it allows. If you are packing fruit from that area for the flight to Paraburdoo, check DPIRD's Queensland fruit fly page first.
Tourism WA says that with a hire car from the airport you can reach Karijini National Park in under two hours by road. Another way in is the bus to Tom Price, where Tourism WA says you can join guided day tours and extended tours of the park.
The Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions (DBCA) describes Karijini National Park as Western Australia's second largest national park. Park entry fees apply and a valid park pass covers them, and dogs and other pets are not allowed in the park.
DBCA warns that flash floods can occur: do not enter gorges if there is rain in the area, and leave at once if it starts raining while you are in one. It also says summer temperatures frequently top 40 degrees Celsius, blue asbestos is present in Yampire and Wittenoom Gorges, and dingoes are common around Dales Campground.
As of September 2026, DBCA's Karijini Visitor Centre page says the centre is closed from early December to early February each year and open 9am to 4pm, Monday to Sunday, in season, so check that page before you go. Park and park road closures are posted on DBCA's park alerts page. Before entering Karijini, the Shire asks visitors to check its road report, which is updated Monday to Friday, as well as DBCA's park page and alerts page.
The Shire of Ashburton says the cyclone season officially runs from 1 November to 30 April each year, though cyclones have been known to occur in every month of the year. The Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) is the hazard management agency for cyclones in WA, and alerts come from DFES, the Bureau of Meteorology and Emergency WA. In Paraburdoo, the community cyclone alert flags are at the police station.
As of September 2026, the Shire of Ashburton's airport page says Paraburdoo Airport is owned and operated by Rio Tinto. Airservices Australia's aerodrome entry names the aerodrome operator as Hamersley Iron Pty Ltd.
