Busselton Margaret River Airport (BQB) is at 86 Neville Hyder Drive, Yalyalup, in the South West of Western Australia, and is owned and operated by the City of Busselton. The operator places it 6.5 kilometres from the Busselton city centre and says it supports regular passenger services, tourism and business travel, fly-in fly-out workforce movements, emergency services and charter operations.
Direct domestic flights recorded from the airport go to Melbourne and Sydney, with Jetstar. Arriving from either city means entering Western Australia from another state, so the biosecurity rules of the state's Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD), set out below, apply on arrival.
The airport has two terminal areas, the Arrivals Terminal and the Departures Terminal. The Airport Services desk is in the Departures Terminal, and the passenger pick-up and drop-off zones are at its front.
The cafe, Poppy and Pip 'On the Fly', is open during scheduled flight departure and arrival times, selling cakes, toasties, sandwiches, coffee, snacks and drinks. The cafe is not licensed.
Free wifi covers the arrival and departure lounges, and a limited number of free luggage trolleys are kept inside the terminal. Public toilets, including accessible toilets and baby change areas, are throughout the terminal. Pets are not permitted inside airport buildings, though registered service animals are welcome.
All airport buildings and apron areas are non-smoking, and that includes e-cigarettes and vapes. The designated smoking areas are outside the terminal and signposted.
Accessible parking bays are close to the terminal entrance. Passengers needing special assistance are asked to arrange it through their airline ahead of travel. The airport supports the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower Program, and the operator notes that the sunflower lanyard does not provide fast-tracking or airline assistance.
The operator describes Busselton Margaret River Airport as a security-controlled airport, with requirements set by the Australian Government. Its security page says you will be screened if you are travelling on flights to Melbourne or Sydney, or if you are entering the departure lounge with a departing passenger. Screening can include a body scanner, X-ray screening of carry-on items and random explosive trace testing of passengers and bags, with selection for extra testing made by an electronic random system.
Refusing any part of screening means you will not be allowed into secure areas or onto your flight.
The Department of Home Affairs applies its restrictions on liquids, aerosols and gels in these situations: when departing Australia, when transiting through Australia from one country to another, on the domestic leg of a flight departing from an Australian international terminal, and before boarding an inbound flight at its last point of departure before Australia.
The drop-off and pick-up zones are at the front of the Departures Terminal, and the car park itself has paid bays. At present the operator says car parking cannot be pre-booked or booked online.
You take a ticket at the boom gate on the way in and pay on your return, either at the pay machine in the Arrivals Terminal, which the operator prefers, or at the exit gate. The exit gates take cards only, by tap or card insert, and payment by electronic funds transfer at point of sale (EFTPOS) is available at the Airport Services desk in the Departures Terminal. After paying at the pay machine you have 30 minutes to leave the car park, and a lost or faded ticket is handled at the Airport Services desk.
Current rates are on the operator's parking page.
Taxi and rideshare pick-up areas are directly outside the terminals and signposted. South West Taxis operate across Busselton and Vasse; Dunsborough, Quindalup and Yallingup; and Cowaramup, Gracetown and Margaret River.
The registered transport operators on the airport's list are DiDi, Cowtown's Desi Driver, Forage Safaris, Jetty and Beyond Charters, and Nero Tours and Transfers. Its transport page also lists tours and private transfers. The operator recommends pre-booking transport before you arrive, particularly in peak travel periods.
Car hire at the airport works by pre-booked arrangement, with key drop facilities on site. The companies listed include Avraa Car Hire, Hertz, Europcar, Budget, and Busselton & South West Rent A Car. The operator suggests contacting your chosen company before you travel to arrange collection.
Melbourne is in Victoria and Sydney is in New South Wales, so a flight from either to Busselton brings you into Western Australia from another state. DPIRD enforces Western Australia's biosecurity laws through Quarantine WA, and under its regulated entry conditions, quarantine risk material must be declared to a quarantine inspector on arrival in Western Australia. DPIRD's advice for travellers arriving by air is to declare any item you are unsure about.
DPIRD's list for travellers says the fruit and vegetables it permits must be free of sprouting green growth, soil, pests and disease, and the items it names include pineapple, carrot, peeled onions, peeled garlic and commercially packaged mushrooms. Fruit and vegetables that are hard frozen on arrival are permitted, except grapes, mango with seed, unpeeled onions, garlic and potatoes, and fruit from the Myrtaceae family. Honey is prohibited unless certified on a Health Certificate, and bees, hive products and used equipment are prohibited except by permit.
Crustaceans such as prawns, crayfish and crabs must be cooked, and nuts are permitted except raw walnuts in shell. Flower and foliage arrangements may be seized and destroyed if they cannot be readily identified or are a pest or disease host, and DPIRD asks travellers to clean shoes and boots that might carry soil before entering Western Australia. DPIRD says its entry requirements for the listed items can change with recent pest and disease outbreaks, so check DPIRD's page on what you can bring into Western Australia before you fly.

On 9 March 2026 the City of Busselton announced that the airport had acquired an Aviramp passenger boarding ramp, fully funded by the City. The ramp is compatible with a range of aircraft types servicing the airport, the operator says.
The City of Busselton's Master Plan (2024) for the airport was endorsed by Council in January 2024. Previously completed projects on the operator's list include a departure lounge extension, a public car park extension, an arrivals hall and terminal building improvements.
The operator's destination page lists Busselton, Dunsborough, Yallingup, Margaret River and Augusta among the towns of the Margaret River Region, which it notes is the traditional land of the Wadandi (Saltwater) people.
The heritage-listed Busselton Jetty extends 1.841 kilometres over Geographe Bay. Its website calls it the longest timber-piled jetty in the Southern Hemisphere and dates its beginnings to 1865. The attractions it lists include an Underwater Observatory, the Jetty Train, an Interpretive Centre and a Marine Discovery Centre, and opening hours for these are approximate and depend on weather, wind and ocean conditions.
The City of Busselton owns and operates the airport.
The operator's transport page gives about 45 minutes from Margaret River or Bunbury and about 10 minutes from Busselton town centre. Its About page places the airport 6.5 kilometres from the Busselton city centre.
