Coffs Harbour Airport (CFS) is on Airport Drive in New South Wales, four kilometres south of the Coffs Harbour city centre. The state's tourism site says it is less than 10 minutes from the town centre. It has one terminal, and the building is on a single level, so check-in, security screening and the gate are all step-free.
The airport is owned by Coffs Harbour City Council and has been leased since 1 June 2021 to Palisade Investment Partners, and Coffs Harbour Airport Pty Ltd was set up to run it. Direct flights are recorded from here to Brisbane, Canberra, Melbourne and Sydney, and the Canberra service is seasonal.
The terminal holds the departures and arrivals halls, baggage claim, the hire car desks, the car park payment machines and the QantasLink Regional Lounge. Luggage trolley bays are in front of the building and inside it.
Smoking is not permitted inside the terminal. The designated smoking areas are outside, at the arrivals end and the departures end of the building.
There are two cafes, one in the departure lounge and one in the arrivals area. Biggles Flight Lounge, the departure lounge cafe, serves hot and cold food, barista coffee, snacks and drinks from a fully stocked bar, and also sells Coffs Coast souvenirs, gifts and cards.
The Hangar Espresso Bar is in the Arrivals Hall, with a view of the tarmac, serving drinks and snacks.
The QantasLink Regional Lounge is in the departures terminal on the left-hand side of check-in. Qantas Club members and partner members can use it when that day's departure is a QantasLink flight. It offers refreshments, bar service, tea and coffee, internet access, newspapers and magazines.
It opens one hour before each QantasLink service and stays open until the last QantasLink departure of the day.
Passengers, cabin baggage and checked baggage are screened in the terminal under the Aviation Transport Security Act 2004 and the Aviation Transport Security Regulations 2005. Before you reach the screening point, tell staff about any disability, and take off metallic jewellery, belts, shoes and other clothing that might set off the metal detector. Remove sharps and dangerous goods as well, and check the signs in the terminal, which list many of the prohibited items.
Boarding help, wheelchairs and mobility equipment are arranged by your airline, not by the airport, and the airport does not receive details of passengers' needs from the airlines. Ask the airline or your travel agent for a wheelchair in advance.
The terminal is step-free between check-in, security and the gate, and the 2017 extension added accessible toilets and a hearing augmentation system. Accessible parking bays are marked in the general public car park. For questions about the airport itself, Airport Administration is on (02) 6650 4812, 8.30am to 5pm on weekdays.

Virgin Australia's airport guide says taxis are located directly outside the domestic terminal. Coffs Harbour Taxis covers the Coffs Harbour district and surrounds with vehicles seating 1 to 11 passengers, and CHASA Taxis covers Coffs Harbour and surrounds with vehicles seating 1 to 7. Uber and DiDi both operate in Coffs Harbour.
Action Coach and Shuttle Services runs an airport shuttle bus from the airport to the major resorts. Macleay Shuttle Service offers private transfers between the airport and the Macleay Valley Coast in a 6-seater four-wheel drive.
CDC NSW bus route 392 runs from Bonville to Coffs Harbour via Toormina, Southern Cross University and Coffs Harbour Airport, so check its route and stops with CDC NSW before you rely on it. Dorrigo Transit runs a regular or on-demand service connecting Armidale, Ebor, Dorrigo, Thora, Bellingen, Urunga, Coffs Harbour and other places. The contacts for each operator are on the airport's transport options page.
The car rental desks are inside the terminal, and the returns area is right beside the building. The brands the airport lists include Budget, Europcar, Hertz, Thrifty, Sixt and Let's Go Motorhomes.
There are two car parks, both a short walk from the terminal, and signs direct you to each on arrival. You can book online in advance, and the airport says drive-up rates are higher than booking ahead.
| Car park | Cover | Walk to the terminal | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| General Parking | Uncovered, open-air | About 1 minute, directly opposite the terminal | Short or long stays, drop-offs and pick-ups |
| Security Parking | Completely covered, monitored 24 hours a day by closed-circuit television (CCTV) | About 2 minutes | Longer stays |
How you get in and out depends on how you pay. With an online booking, scan the code from your confirmation email at the entry and exit gate readers. With a Visa or Mastercard, tap it at the entry reader and tap the same card at the exit, and in Security Parking tap it again at the door to get back in.
If you take a ticket at the entry gate instead, pay at an automatic pay station inside the terminal by cash or card, or at the exit gate by card. An online booking is single-use, a grace period of 1 hour applies either side of the booking, and a booking cannot be changed once you have entered the car park. The details are on the airport's entry and exit page.
Direct domestic flights recorded from Coffs Harbour Airport go to the places below, with the airlines recorded on each route. The airlines recorded are Link Airways, Qantas, Virgin Australia and Rex, and check-in and baggage rules are each airline's own.
| Destination | Airport | Airlines recorded |
|---|---|---|
| Brisbane | Brisbane Airport (BNE) | Link Airways, Virgin Australia |
| Canberra | Canberra Airport (CBR) | Link Airways (seasonal) |
| Melbourne | Melbourne Airport (MEL) | Qantas |
| Sydney | Sydney Airport (SYD) | Qantas, Rex |
Link Airways' Canberra service is seasonal, not year-round. Link Airways lists this season as running between 10 September 2026 and 10 January 2027, and says it will look to continue the service in line with demand. If you are planning a trip to Canberra after that, check with Link Airways whether the route is operating.
New South Wales, where Coffs Harbour is, observes daylight saving, and so do Victoria, South Australia, Tasmania and the Australian Capital Territory. Queensland, Western Australia and the Northern Territory do not.
The airport returned to Coffs Harbour City Council in 1984, and the terminal, built with Commonwealth funds, opened in 1987. An air traffic control tower was installed in the 1980s and is administered by Airservices Australia.
In 2017 the departures and arrivals halls were extended, with New South Wales Government funding, adding 25% more floor space. That work also added accessible toilets and the hearing augmentation system.
On 1 June 2021 the council leased the airport to Palisade Investment Partners for 50 years, with an option of a further 49 years, and Coffs Harbour Airport Pty Ltd was set up to run it. The council says it continues to be consulted on master planning and strategic direction. From 1 July 2025 Coffs Harbour Airport Pty Ltd took on full responsibility for the airport with a locally based management team, after a period in which Sunshine Coast Airport Pty Ltd supported local operations.
The airport describes its Airport Enterprise Park as under development, and says it will deliver commercial land for retail, commercial, industry and light manufacturing use. The council describes the park as a subdivision for business and aviation-related enterprises, and says its first phase of construction was completed in early 2021.
The master plan on the airport's website is the 2019 Master Plan Update, which Coffs Harbour City Council commissioned in January 2019.
Coffs Harbour is on the Coffs Coast, on the North Coast of New South Wales. By road it is less than six hours north of Sydney and just over four hours south of Brisbane, and the train from Sydney takes around nine hours.
The coast has beaches along an 80-kilometre stretch, and Muttonbird Island is reached along the breakwall. If you do not drive here, the state's tourism site says hiring a car is the best way to explore the region.
