Link Airways (airline code FC) is a regional airline flying Saab 340B Plus and Metro 23 turboprops. In its own words, it flies "from Brisbane, Canberra and Melbourne to destinations in New South Wales, Queensland and Tasmania". Its Melbourne flights use Terminal 4 at Melbourne Airport (MEL), Tullamarine, and it sells four fare types: Deal, Standard, Freedom and Flexible.

Link Airways terminals and check-in locations

Melbourne Airport: Terminal 4

Link's Melbourne flights use Melbourne Airport at Tullamarine, from Terminal 4 (T4). Link says check-in is at the southern end of the T4 ground floor main departures hall, with security upstairs, and arriving bags come to the baggage hall on the lower ground floor of T4. Melbourne Airport's own T4 guide lists Link Airways in T4 as well.

Link's Melbourne page says Virgin Australia domestic flights operate from Terminal 3 (T3), so a connection between a Link flight and a Virgin Australia domestic flight at Melbourne means changing terminals. Melbourne Airport says departure gates show about 30 minutes before the flight.

Brisbane Airport: the Domestic Terminal

At Brisbane Airport (BNE), Link says its check-in is on the ground floor in the southern area of the Domestic Terminal, directly beside Virgin Australia. Brisbane Airport also places Link Airways at the southern end of domestic check-in. Link's baggage carousels are in the arrivals hall on the ground floor of the Domestic Terminal.

Canberra Airport: Level 2

Canberra Airport (CBR) has one terminal building for domestic and international flights. Link gives its check-in as Level 2 of the main terminal, and the airport puts Link Airways on the left as you enter, with Virgin Australia.

Hobart, Launceston and Newcastle

Hobart Airport (HBA) has one terminal building, and the airport says check-in desks for all airlines are in the middle of it. At Launceston Airport (LST), the airport says Link passengers check in at the northern end of the Check-in Hall, where Link ground staff check bags and issue the boarding pass and bag tag.

Newcastle Airport (NTL) has one terminal building, with check-in on the left side at the Departures end.

Smaller regional airports

At Armidale, Biloela (Thangool), Bundaberg, Coffs Harbour, Dubbo, Narrabri, Orange and Tamworth, Link's airport information page gives its check-in location as "Main Terminal".

Link Airways fare types and what each includes

As of October 2026, Link's Fare Rules page names four fare types, and the full rules for a fare are shown when you book. Standard was previously called Discount and Freedom was previously called Saver, so an older booking may carry those names.

Within 30 minutes of departure, Link's Fare Rules page permits no changes on any of the four fares. On Deal and Standard, the credit has to be used within 12 months of the ticket being issued. These fare names and rules are Link's, for tickets sold with Link's own FC flight number; if your ticket carries a Virgin Australia flight number, Virgin Australia's conditions apply.

When weather disrupts a Link flight

Link's Conditions of Carriage treat weather as an "Event Beyond Our Control". In that case Link uses reasonable endeavours to rebook you on the next available flight, or alternatively gives a flight credit to use within 12 months of the date your original ticket was issued, and a refund is given on request in the cases the Conditions set out.

The Virgin Australia codeshare, lounges and Velocity

Link and Virgin Australia announced a codeshare partnership on 18 January 2024, and Virgin Australia put the first codeshare flights on general sale on its website on 19 March 2024. A Link-operated flight can be sold under a Virgin Australia flight number or under Link's own FC number. Link's Conditions of Carriage say the conditions of the airline whose flight number is on your ticket apply to your flight.

Codeshare passengers check in in person at the airport, Link says. Virgin Australia's release of 19 March 2024 said Velocity Frequent Flyer members earn Points and Status Credits on Virgin Australia codeshare services operated by Link; check Velocity's current terms on Virgin Australia's site before relying on this.

On Link's own FC flights, Velocity members earn points in an eligible fare class but are not eligible for Status Credits or Tier Bonus Points, and points are credited within 14 days after travel, according to Link. Its partnership with Velocity and Virgin Australia lounges took effect on 22 August 2022.

Virgin Australia's lounge page admits passengers on Link's own FC flights, on Flexible and Freedom fares (fare classes Y, B, H and K), to its lounges in Brisbane, Canberra, Melbourne and Sydney. Link's lounge page lets you in up to three hours before the scheduled departure, with a Link boarding pass in your name for a Link flight leaving that airport.

Checking in for a Link Airways flight

Link's online check-in opens 24 hours before departure and closes 30 minutes before, and Link does not offer kiosk check-in. Unaccompanied minors, passengers travelling with an infant, passengers with specific assistance needs and codeshare passengers check in in person at the airport.

Under Link's Conditions of Carriage, airport check-in as a general rule opens 1 hour before departure and closes 30 minutes before the scheduled departure time; different airports may have different deadlines, and the deadline for your flight is in your itinerary. Link's bookings are paperless, so you do not need a paper ticket.

Identification for Link flights

Link's Conditions of Carriage ask for "valid photographic personal identification (such as a passport or drivers licence)". Link says passengers under 18 travelling with a parent or guardian who has identification do not need their own.

Connecting to Virgin Australia and other airlines

Link's recommended minimum connection time is 30 minutes between two Link flights, and 60 minutes between Link and a Virgin Australia domestic flight on a single booking with the same ticket number. Link's figure is 90 minutes between Link and Virgin Australia on separate bookings, and 90 minutes between Link and another domestic airline.

On separate bookings, bags are not transferred between airlines, and Link's FAQ says Link will not book another airline's connecting flight for you.

Children and passengers who need assistance

On Link, infants under 2 travel on an adult's lap, and children aged 2 to 4 cannot travel alone. Children aged 5 to 11 travel as unaccompanied minors or with someone aged 15 or over, 12 to 15 year olds can travel alone or as unaccompanied minors, and 16 and 17 year olds can travel alone. Link needs notice of an unaccompanied minor at booking, and does not carry an unaccompanied minor who connects to another airline.

Link asks for notice of special assistance at booking. Its Disabled Passenger Lift can be used on Saab 340B Plus flights but not on Metro 23 flights, and Link says it is not available at Biloela, Inverell or Narrabri whatever the aircraft; Link prefers 48 hours' notice.

Link Airways baggage allowance

These baggage figures are Link's, for tickets sold with Link's own FC flight number; if your ticket carries a Virgin Australia flight number, Virgin Australia's conditions apply.

As of October 2026, Link Airways allows one piece of checked baggage for an adult or child: 23 kg on Flexible and Freedom fares, and 15 kg on Standard and Deal fares. An infant has no checked allowance of its own. Check the allowance on your booking with Link before you fly.

Cabin baggage is one piece of up to 7 kg, measuring up to 48 by 34 by 23 cm, for an adult or child, on both aircraft types and every fare type; an infant has none. Crew may direct a cabin bag into the hold.

Under Link's Conditions of Carriage, a checked bag has a linear limit of 140 cm and a single item over 32 kg is not accepted; Link's checked baggage page allows surfboards up to 2 m. Each infant may have one stroller, bassinet or car seat up to 23 kg in total.

Under the Conditions, a passenger with reduced mobility may also check in a fully collapsible self-propelled wheelchair or a hand-propelled or other non-mechanical aid, such as crutches, a walking stick or a prosthetic device, up to 32 kg per passenger, in addition to the normal allowance, with notice before booking. Link's checked baggage page also lists electric wheelchairs and electric scooters among the mobility aids it carries in addition to the normal allowance, and says equipment over 120 kg per piece needs Link's prior approval.

Perishable goods are not accepted as checked baggage unless identified to Link and accepted in writing. Service animals travel in the cabin. Link's Conditions say it may carry other animals if you make prior arrangements with it, and that it can refuse an animal.

Link Airways aircraft

Link's Saab 340B Plus seats 34 passengers in rows of two and one, with a captain, a first officer and a flight attendant. It is pressurised and air-conditioned, has a lavatory, and cabin crew serve refreshments in flight.

The Metro 23 seats 19 passengers in rows of one and one, with a captain and a first officer and no flight attendant. It is pressurised and air-conditioned but has no lavatory, and refreshments are provided on boarding. Link's notice for its Canberra to Launceston service names the Saab 340B Plus, with full inflight cabin service.

Flying with Link Airways into Tasmania

Link's flights from Canberra to Hobart and Launceston arrive in Tasmania, which sets its own biosecurity rules through Biosecurity Tasmania. On arrival, some items need inspection by a Biosecurity Tasmania officer, who makes the final decision, and Biosecurity Tasmania advises leaving risk items at home. Fresh fruit and vegetables are not permitted entry into Tasmania and have to be declared.

Hobart Airport says that when you leave the aircraft you will be asked to dispose of or declare goods not permitted in Tasmania, and those items go in the biosecurity bins inside the terminal; Biosecurity Tasmania officers and detector dogs inspect hand and checked luggage. The Tasmanian Government said in November 2025 that produce x-ray machines had been installed at Hobart and Launceston. Biosecurity Tasmania's travellers' guide sets out what you can and cannot bring.
