Gladstone Airport (GLT) is at 31 Aerodrome Road in Clinton, Queensland. It serves Gladstone and a catchment the operator describes as reaching Rockhampton to the north, Biloela to the west and Agnes Water and Seventeen Seventy to the south. It is operated by Gladstone Airport Corporation, which its 2023 financial statements describe as wholly owned by Gladstone Regional Council.

The terminal has a check-in area, an arrivals hall and a departures lounge, with Café ten28 in the departures lounge and a coffee van outside arrivals. Taxis, Uber, a public bus route, car hire desks and a short-term and a long-term car park serve the airport, and Heron Island guests have a service desk and lounge in the arrivals terminal.

Check-in and security at Gladstone Airport

Virgin Australia's own Gladstone airport guide lists set morning and afternoon opening windows for its check-in counters, so check that guide for the current hours before you plan an early arrival. For baggage rules, the airport refers passengers to their airline.

Screening is required for all passengers, friends and loved ones before they enter the departures lounge. Personal items are X-rayed, people must pass through a body scanner, and some people are randomly checked for explosives.

For what you can carry, the airport points to the Department of Home Affairs screening pages and to the Civil Aviation Safety Authority's Can I pack that? app for dangerous goods.

Accessibility at Gladstone Airport

The terminal has wheelchair and lift access, ramps, braille signage, braille notices and floor textures, and hearing loops in designated areas, which also carry the boarding calls. Screening officers assist passengers at the screening point.

Airlines are responsible for passengers with a disability or special needs from check-in to baggage collection, so tell the airline when you book. Airlines generally advise booking assistance at least five days ahead, and Virgin Australia's guide says guests who need help can be escorted to and from the gates.

Accessible parking is in both car parks: close to the terminal entrances in the short-term car park, and close to the walkway access to the terminal in the long-term car park.

Lost property and pets at Gladstone Airport

Report an item lost at the airport through the airport's online form; found items are generally kept for four weeks. Anything lost on a flight or left on a baggage carousel goes to the airline, so contact the airline about those items.

Pets travel through the airline's freight process and should not be brought into the terminal. The airport's guide names Qantas Freight as one of the freight providers.

The operator's history page traces the airport to a simple airstrip cleared by Thiess Bros in 1952. It says the runway was lengthened and basic terminal facilities were added in the industrial boom of the 1970s, and that the terminal was revamped, the runway extended and security modernised in the 2000s.

The operator announced on 28 April 2026 that construction was under way on a purpose-built Patient Transfer Facility for aeromedical transfers, with off-grid solar power and battery storage. The facility is for patients and aeromedical crews, not for passengers.

Gladstone and Agnes Water

The operator calls Gladstone the regional hub for the Southern Great Barrier Reef and a transit destination serving inland cities and the mining and residential communities of Central Queensland.

At the southern end of the catchment, Tourism and Events Queensland describes Agnes Water and the Town of 1770 (also known as Seventeen Seventy) as seaside communities with surf breaks, Captain Cook's Landing Place, the patrolled Agnes Beach and day trips to Lady Musgrave Island. It gives July to October as the whale-watching season for migrating humpback whales. Gladstone Regional Council describes the area as having the most northerly beach on the east coast to regularly receive the Tasman Sea swell.
