Griffith Regional Airport (GFF) is on Remembrance Drive, Griffith, in New South Wales (NSW), and Griffith City Council owns, operates and maintains it. The council puts the airport 4.3 kilometres from the Griffith Central Business District (CBD), while Destination NSW and the Visit Griffith tourism site both say 5 kilometres. It is also called Griffith Airport.

This site's schedule records show direct flights with Qantas and Regional Express (Rex) to Sydney, and with Rex to Narrandera.

The terminal at Griffith Regional Airport

The council's airport page says the terminal has accessibility measures for passengers of all abilities. For aircraft accessibility and boarding requirements, it asks passengers to contact their airline directly.

The council says baggage must not be left unattended at any time at the airport, and that unattended items may be seized and destroyed.

The council says it does not provide customer assistance with airline service issues, including reservations and cancellations, so take those to Qantas or Rex. Its Customer Service line takes enquiries about the terminal, the runway and the amenities.

Security screening information

For information about passenger security screening on domestic flights, the council refers travellers to their airline or to the TravelSECURE website.

The Australian Government's guidance sets general conditions for air services, not a ruling on Griffith. It says an open charter or regular public transport air service must be screened if it:

  • uses aircraft with a seating capacity of 40 or more persons
  • operates from an Australian designated, tier 1 or tier 2 security controlled airport
  • uses any aircraft departing from the same apron as a screened air service operating at a designated airport

When the liquids restrictions apply

The Department of Home Affairs TravelSECURE page says its liquids restrictions apply in these situations:

  • when departing Australia
  • when transiting through Australia from one country to another
  • when travelling on the domestic leg of a flight departing from an Australian international terminal
  • before boarding an inbound flight at its last point of departure before it reaches Australia

Fog at Griffith Regional Airport in winter

The council warns that Griffith is subject to fog during the winter months and that delays may occur. If your plans depend on arriving on time, check the status of your flight with your airline on the day.

Getting to and from Griffith Regional Airport

Taxis and hire cars at Griffith Regional Airport

The council lists these among the rental car and taxi providers offering transport to and from the airport:

  • Sixt (02 6962 9122)
  • Hertz (02 6964 1111)
  • Griffith City Taxis (131 008)

Destination NSW says taxis are available at the terminal for the short trip south, and that you can also rent a car at the airport.

Parking at Griffith Regional Airport

In August 2025 the council announced paid parking for the airport car park, using a ticketless licence plate recognition system. Its releases describe a system that scans number plates on entry and exit, with card-only payment at an automated pay station inside the terminal building.

As at 28 September 2026, the council said parking at the airport remained free of charge while the system was being tested. In a 10 September 2026 release, it said it would notify the community before the paid parking system becomes operational.

In the same 28 September 2026 release, the council reported vehicle break-ins at the airport and damage to the new parking infrastructure. It said more security cameras would be installed, and it encouraged passengers to remove valuables and make sure their vehicles are locked.

The council's airport page says the car park is locked overnight.

Reaching Griffith by road, coach and rail

Visit Griffith puts Griffith 570 kilometres southwest of Sydney, 450 kilometres north of Melbourne, 350 kilometres west of Canberra along the Burley Griffin Way, and 790 kilometres east of Adelaide. Destination NSW describes it as a six-hour drive from Sydney and five hours from Melbourne.

Transport for NSW says the Griffith XPLORER train runs from Sydney, and that Melbourne XPT trains stop at Cootamundra or Wagga Wagga with coach connections to Griffith.

Recent works and plans at Griffith Regional Airport

In early February 2024 the airport closed temporarily for spray-sealing of the runway, taxiway and air transport apron, according to a council release of 27 February 2024. The council said grant funding from the Australian Government paid for the work.

On 12 February 2025 the council announced federal funding, under round four of the Regional Airports Program, to replace the airport's ageing runway lights.

On 11 June 2026 the council said it had started developing a new Master Plan for the airport and had appointed To70 Aviation Australia Pty Ltd. The plan is meant to guide future development, infrastructure planning, land use, operational requirements and investment priorities over the next 10 to 20 years. The council said representatives of To70 would visit Griffith from 7 to 9 July 2026 to start project activities and hold initial stakeholder engagement.

Griffith and the Riverina

Destination NSW calls the Riverina the "food bowl" of NSW, and says architect Walter Burley Griffin designed Griffith as part of the Murrumbidgee Irrigation Scheme. It also says more than 60% of Griffith locals are of Italian heritage, and that the first vineyard was established in 1912.

The cellar doors Destination NSW names include De Bortoli Wines at Bilbul (home of Noble One Botrytis Semillon), Yarran Wines at Yenda and Calabria Family Wines. Its places to see include Griffith Pioneer Park Museum, which holds the Griffith Italian Museum, as well as the Griffith Regional Art Gallery and the heritage-listed stone structures of Hermit's Cave on Scenic Hill. It also names Whitton Malt House, a working malthouse with a dining room and cellar door on the outskirts of Griffith.

Destination NSW lists Griffith Spring Fest in October, which takes in the Griffith Multicultural Festival, as well as Festa delle Salsicce in August and the Griffith Easter Party on the Easter long weekend.
