Narrandera-Leeton Airport (NRA) is in New South Wales, and Narrandera Shire Council puts it five kilometres from Narrandera township. The council's airport page says Regional Express (Rex) serves it, with flights to Sydney and Griffith. Leeton Shire Council, which calls it Leeton-Narrandera Airport, says it is a 15-minute drive from Leeton.

Who runs Narrandera-Leeton Airport

Airservices Australia's aerodrome entry, in its issue of 3 September 2026, names Narrandera Shire Council as the aerodrome operator. The same entry says the aerodrome is a security controlled airport.

The council says the airport is also the base of the Narrandera Leeton Australian Air League. Its airport page also writes the name as Narrandera Leeton Airport, without the hyphen.

The parallel taxiway project

The Commonwealth's Regional Airports Program, in its second round, listed a council project to build a sealed parallel taxiway and run-up bays at the airport, with line marking, lighting, signage and drainage.

The Narrandera Argus reported on 21 December 2023 that the council had discontinued the project after declining all the tender submissions, because every tendered price exceeded the allocated budget. It also reported that the taxiway was meant in response to the Australian Airline Pilot Academy (AAPA) selecting the airport as a site to extend its pilot training program. The newspaper reported that the council would tell the Commonwealth it could not accept the grant, and that no formal commitment to a permanent full-scale training facility at Narrandera had been received.

Passenger facilities listed for Narrandera-Leeton Airport

Airservices Australia's aerodrome entry for the airport lists, on its passenger facilities line, a public telephone, a taxi, a passenger lounge and toilets. It lists no bus to town, no hire car and no refreshments.

Airservices Australia's guide to its aerodrome entries warns that a taxi or hire car may need a phone call after arrival. Rex's disruption FAQ says that, because of limited facilities at some of the regional airports it flies to, refreshments or meals for delayed passengers may not always be available there.

Transport and drive times the councils list

Taxi and ride share

Narrandera Shire Council's public transport page lists Narrandera Flag under taxi and ride share, among the public transport options the council lists for the district, and describes it as a family owned and operated passenger service.

Trains and coaches at Narrandera

The same council page says NSW TrainLink's regional trains and coaches run services for regional passengers, and it points to the timetables for Narrandera Station and for the coach stops at Barellan and Grong Grong.

Driving to Leeton

Leeton Shire Council says the airport is a 15-minute drive from Leeton. The same page puts Leeton 40 minutes' drive from Griffith and 6 hours' drive from Sydney.

Flying Rex from Narrandera-Leeton Airport

Rex's check-in page says its check-in desk closes 30 minutes before the scheduled departure at regional airports in New South Wales, and its boarding gate closes 15 minutes before. Rex recommends presenting checked bags 60 minutes before departure, and its web check-in opens 48 hours ahead and closes 60 minutes before. Passengers with special requirements must check in at the airport, and Rex's customer contact line is 13 17 13.

Rex's travel requirements page says passengers aged 18 and over must show an acceptable form of identification, either photo identification or two forms of non-photo identification, with the name matching the booking. Passengers aged 17 or under need none if they travel with, or are presented at check-in by, an identifiable guardian. Rex's Conditions of Carriage, separately, refer to satisfactory photo identification at check-in.

Rex's baggage page lists its regional services as operated by the Saab 340 turboprop, and it currently allows 7 kg of carry-on baggage on all fares on those services, with the checked allowance depending on the fare type. Rex says carry-on bags may be weighed and measured, and a bag over the limit at the boarding gate is offloaded and goes as checked baggage on the next available flight, for the passenger to collect on arrival. Rex also says the Saab 340's cargo compartment has only a very limited capacity, and it reserves the right to offload checked bags when the aircraft is restricted in the baggage it can carry.

Rex describes boarding by the aircraft stairs. It says it provides a Disabled Passenger Lifter at its regular airports for passengers who cannot board or disembark using stairs, and it asks to be told of special requirements at least 48 hours before the planned departure.

Rex's Conditions of Carriage name inclement weather among the events beyond its control, and say times of arrival and departure are not guaranteed. If Rex changes the schedule or cancels the booked flight, the passenger may cancel the ticket and get a full refund.

Security screening and liquids rules

When an air service must be screened

This is the Commonwealth's general screening rule for air services. The Cyber and Infrastructure Security Centre says an air service that operates open charter or a regular public transport operation must be aviation security screened if it:

  • uses aircraft with a seating capacity of 40 or more persons
  • operates from an Australian designated, tier 1 or tier 2 security controlled airport
  • uses any aircraft departing from the same apron as a screened air service operating at a designated airport

Liquids, aerosols and gels

These are the Commonwealth's general rules for liquids, aerosols and gels. The Department of Home Affairs says each container must be 100 mL or 100 g or less, and all containers must fit in one transparent, resealable plastic bag. It lists these situations for the restrictions:

  • when departing Australia
  • when transiting through Australia from one country to another
  • when travelling on the domestic leg of a flight departing from an Australian international terminal
  • before boarding an inbound flight at its last point of departure before it reaches Australia

The council's visitor pages point to camping in Murrumbidgee Valley National Park near Narrandera, and say Narrandera's wildflowers return each spring. Its site also lists Lake Talbot Water Park, the Parkside Cottage Museum, the Narrandera Arts and Community Centre, Art on the Water Tower and the Narrandera Destination and Discovery Hub, and it names Barellan and Grong Grong, with Narrandera, for things to do in the shire.
