Kalgoorlie-Boulder Airport (KGI) is in the Goldfields of Western Australia and is owned and run by the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder, the airport operator. Ownership and operational responsibility passed to the City in 1989, and the airport has been on its current site since 1992. Tourism Western Australia describes it as a five-minute drive or ride from central Kalgoorlie.
The operator describes it as one of the busiest regional airports in Australia, and figures from the Bureau of Infrastructure and Transport Research Economics (BITRE) show passenger movements at Kalgoorlie rose in the year to December 2025, compared with the year before. This site's schedule records show direct domestic flights from Kalgoorlie-Boulder Airport to Perth, with Qantas, Alliance Airlines and Virgin Australia.
There are two terminals. The main terminal is open during operational hours for all scheduled passenger flights, and it has a bar and snack kiosk and free wifi.
The general aviation terminal is open to pilots and passengers 24 hours a day, with basic amenities, and airside access there is password protected and monitored by closed-circuit television. The operator lists the Royal Flying Doctor Service, Goldfields Air Services and Circle H Helicopters among the general aviation operators at the airport.
Angie's Bar and Kiosk in the main terminal sells hot drinks, toasted sandwiches, pies, pasties, sausage rolls, snacks and magazines, and it has a licensed bar. As of September 2026, the operator says the main terminal, where the bar and kiosk are, opens for business 45 minutes before each scheduled flight arrival and closes 30 minutes after departure.
Free wifi covers the terminal precinct, and baggage trolleys are free for arriving and departing passengers. The terminal is smoke free, with smoking allowed only in designated areas outside. Virgin Australia's guide to the airport places the baggage carousels in the arrivals hall and Baggage Services in the arrivals hall, ground floor, and says accessible toilets are available.
The parents' room, next to security screening, has infant change tables. The children's play area is suitable for ages 3 to 10, children must be supervised by a parent or carer, and a "no socks, no play" rule applies to children and adults alike.
The operator says baggage allowances vary with each airline and the conditions of your ticket, so check the allowance and the check-in time with the airline. Virgin Australia's airport guide gives its counter times as from 90 minutes before a flight until 30 minutes after it, so confirm the time on your booking.
Wheelchairs are arranged through the airline: the operator asks passengers to contact their airline before the travel date to pre-arrange one. Virgin Australia says guests who need help can be escorted to and from the gates by asking a team member.
The Department of Home Affairs says its limits on liquids, aerosols, gels and certain powders apply to carry-on bags on international flights, not to checked baggage or most domestic flights. Prohibited items cannot be taken past the screening point, aerosols for personal or medical use need a cap or locking mechanism, and screening officers have the final say on what goes on board. For medicines, you may need to show proof such as a doctor's letter or an ID card, the name on a prescription label has to match the boarding pass, and only a reasonable amount for the flight is allowed (see the Department of Home Affairs screening page).
The operator lists taxis and car hire from the main terminal, and a two-minute zone for picking up and dropping off.
| Option | Details |
|---|---|
| Taxi | Twin City Cabs and Go Gold Taxis and Shuttle Service |
| Rideshare | Drop-off only, in the two-minute zone |
| Car hire | The firms listed include Europcar, Budget and Hertz |
| Your own car | Short-term and long-term parking, with an e-ticket needed for every stay |
| Pick-up and drop-off | A free two-minute zone next to the terminal forecourt |
| Bus | A bus terminal at the airport, completed in September 2024 |
The operator lists Twin City Cabs for airport and rail transfers, with maxi taxis and wheelchair-accessible vehicles, on 13 10 08 or (08) 9021 2177. Go Gold Taxis and Shuttle Service is on (08) 9093 0333 or 13 13 30.
The operator marks the two-minute zone next to the terminal forecourt for taxi and rideshare drop-off only. The operator lists a new bus terminal at the airport, completed in September 2024.
The operator lists Europcar, Budget and Hertz among the car hire firms available from the main terminal.
As of September 2026, the operator's transport and parking page says everyone who parks, even for five minutes, must get an e-ticket. The first 24 hours are free but still need the e-ticket, and parking beyond that is charged by the day. City Rangers inspect the car parks daily, and an infringement can be issued for parking without an e-ticket.
E-tickets come from the machines at the airport or the EasyPark app, and the ticket does not need to be displayed on the dashboard. The machines take bookings of up to 24 consecutive days and the app up to 14, and an extension has to be made at an airport machine or in the app.
Short-term parking, close to the terminal, is for stays of up to 24 hours. Long-term parking is for longer stays, with an overflow car park to the left as you drive into the parking area, where a ticket is also needed. Accessible parking is free for permit holders.
The pick-up and drop-off zone next to the terminal forecourt is free, and the operator says the limit is strictly 2 minutes.
The table shows the direct domestic destination recorded from Kalgoorlie-Boulder Airport, with the airlines recorded on the route: Qantas, Alliance Airlines and Virgin Australia. Check-in, baggage and fare conditions are best confirmed with each airline.

Tourism Western Australia gives the trip between Perth and Kalgoorlie as a one-hour flight, a 6.5-hour drive along the Great Eastern Highway or a seven-hour train journey.
Kalgoorlie and Perth are both in Western Australia, which does not observe daylight saving. Queensland and the Northern Territory do not either; New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia, Tasmania and the Australian Capital Territory do.
The operator's project pages list a new bus terminal, completed in September 2024, and the resurfacing of the pick-up and drop-off road in front of the terminal, completed in October 2024. The operator's page on its 2024/25 budget described a programme that was to include expanded lounge areas, runway and drainage upgrades, more parking, and upgrades to access roads, drop-off zones and the bus terminal. The operator's about page refers to a new master plan.
ABC News reported on 23 February 2026 that fly-in fly-out workers were now believed to outnumber the local population, and that a new City report suggested the fly-in fly-out workforce was considerably larger than the resident population. ABC said the findings of a feasibility study on upgrading the airport were due to be presented to councillors that week.
ABC listed options previously flagged as an airport hotel, new access roads, a freight terminal and a large-scale solar farm, and quoted the mayor saying a separate arrivals and departures terminal had also been considered. It said the upgrades were likely to take close to a decade. At the time of the report, these were options under consideration, not committed works.
Tourism Western Australia calls Kalgoorlie Australia's largest outback town, in its Golden Outback region. The sights it lists include the Super Pit in Boulder and the Museum of the Goldfields, with day tours from Kalgoorlie to the Lake Ballard sculptures near Menzies.
