Sunshine Coast Airport (MCY) is in Queensland, within 10 kilometres of the Maroochydore City Centre, with access to the Sunshine Motorway. Sunshine Coast Council owns the airport, and Sunshine Coast Airport Pty Ltd manages and operates it under a 99-year lease that began in December 2017. That company is owned by Palisade Investment Partners.
In February 2026 the operator said the terminal was being redeveloped. Its new outbound baggage facility opened that month, and the operator said then that a new check-in hall and a new arrivals hall were both due to open later in 2026.
Airline check-in desks are in the departures area of the terminal. Each airline sets its own check-in cut-off, baggage allowance and web, mobile or bag-drop options, so check them with your airline before you fly.
The operator says baggage storage is not available at the airport. Baggage trolleys are free in the terminal and in every car park. Unattended bags are treated as suspicious and reported to the Australian Federal Police.
For anything left in the terminal, email [email protected] or use the operator's lost property form. For items left on the aircraft, or for luggage that is lost or damaged, contact your airline, and for items left in a local taxi, contact Suncoast Cabs.
Screening at the airport runs under the Aviation Transport Security Act 2004 and the Aviation Transport Security Regulations 2005. You walk through a metal detector or a body scanner while your belongings go through an x-ray machine, and you may be asked to have a pat-down (in a private room if you ask) or an explosive trace test. The body scanners use millimetre waves and are not metal detectors.
Domestic flights within Australia are not subject to restrictions on how much powder, liquid, aerosol or gel you carry on board, and the liquid limits apply to international flights only. Aerosol containers need a fitted cap or locking device. Photos must not include the check-in counters, check-in staff, or security procedures and staff.
Friends and family can go through screening to see off or meet a domestic passenger in the public departure lounge, but they cannot go past the boarding gate.
Southern Arrivals holds the Timber and Tide cafe and the Con-X-ion shuttle booking desk. Water refill stations are on the kerb near the entry to Southern Arrivals.
| Option | Where to find it |

The operator's transport map shows where each of these is, along with the car parks.
Translink runs a public bus service through the airport, and its Smart Ticketing takes debit and credit cards, payWave and phone wallets. Translink Go Explore visitor cards are sold at the Timber and Tide cafe in Southern Arrivals.
Con-X-ion Airport Transfers runs the airport shuttle. Book at its desk in Southern Arrivals, through its call centre (open 24 hours, 7 days) or on its website, and board at the coach parking bays behind the taxi rank.
Suncoast Cabs operates taxis to and from the airport, from a rank in front of the terminal's arrivals hall. A pick-up fee applies to taxi trips.
The car rental centre is a two-minute walk from the terminal. The brands the operator lists there include Bargain Car Rentals, Budget, Europcar, Hertz, Redspot, Sixt and Thrifty, and it also lists self-service hire from RaD Car Hire, Bespoke Noosa Car Rentals and KINTO. East Coast Car Rentals, Apex Car Rentals and Aussie Bargain Car Rentals are off the airport and reached by shuttle bus.
The kerbside zone outside the terminal is only for the immediate pick-up of arriving passengers or drop-off of departing ones, and parking there is not permitted at any time. Vehicles must not be left unattended, an aviation security requirement, and unattended or overstaying vehicles may be fined or towed. For a longer wait, the first 10 minutes are free in the Short Term car park and the first hour is free in the Long Term car park, with your ticket stamped on entry.
| Car park | Walk to the terminal | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Short Term | 1 minute | First 10 minutes free |
| Covered | 3 minutes | Weather cover, fully fenced; motorcycle bays |
| Park Value | 6 minutes | Drive-up only |
| Long Term | 7 minutes | First hour free; electric vehicle bays, first come first served and not bookable; motorcycle bays |
Every car park has accessible parking for vehicles displaying a blue disability permit. Some parking can be booked online in advance, but Park Value is drive-up only and the electric vehicle bays in Long Term cannot be booked.

South Australia requires fruit and vegetables at risk from fruit fly to be eaten or disposed of before you enter the state. Its rules depend on the type of produce and on where in Australia you travel from, and the list below is drawn from South Australia's table for travellers from Queensland.
The Fruit Fly Hotline is 1300 666 010 and is open 24 hours.
The airport was officially opened in 1961 under the name Maroochy Airport. A new runway, running north-west to south-east and able to take aircraft such as the Airbus A330 and Boeing 787, was completed in 2020, and the old runway that had been in use since 1961 has been decommissioned.
The operator says the airport serves communities as far north as Bundaberg and Gympie, south to north Moreton Bay and west to the ranges.
Construction of the new outbound baggage facility began in May 2025, and the operator opened it in February 2026 as the first stage of the terminal redevelopment, with computed tomography screening for checked bags. In the same release it said construction was under way on the next phase, including the new check-in hall and arrivals hall, both due to open later in 2026, and that the terminal would be transformed over the following 18 months.
An earlier operator release set out plans for the expanded terminal to add departure gates, a larger departure lounge, automatic bag drops and self-service check-in kiosks, with the full expansion of the terminal due by 2027.
Sunshine Coast Council puts the airport within 10 kilometres of the Maroochydore City Centre, with access to the Sunshine Motorway.
