Skytrans, which trades as Skytrans Australia, is a regional airline with its head office in Cairns, Queensland. Its home page says its scheduled passenger flights run "from Sydney to Lord Howe Island and across the Cape York and Whitsunday Coast regions". It also flies charter services.

At Cairns, Skytrans's conditions say its flights depart from and arrive at the domestic terminal, and at Sydney Airport its flights depart from Domestic Terminal 3 and arrive at Domestic Terminal 2. Skytrans sells three fare types, Regular, Choice and Deal, which differ in how close to departure a booking can be changed or cancelled. Check-in closes 45 minutes before the scheduled departure time at Aurukun, Bamaga, Kowanyama, Lockhart River and Pormpuraaw, and 30 minutes before at all other airports.

Skytrans terminals at Cairns Airport and Sydney Airport

At Cairns Airport (CNS), Skytrans's Terms and Conditions (Revision 4.0, effective 24 July 2026) say: "Skytrans flights from Cairns depart from and arrive at the domestic terminal."

Skytrans's Sydney flights use Sydney Airport (SYD), also known as Sydney Kingsford Smith. Its Terms and Conditions say its flights from Sydney depart from Domestic Terminal 3 (T3) and arrive at Domestic Terminal 2 (T2). The Lord Howe Island Board said in its air service update of July 2025 that Skytrans had reached an in-principle agreement with Sydney Airport to continue using Terminal 3 for check-in and departures.

Skytrans fare types: Regular, Choice and Deal

Skytrans's Fare Rules (Form SKT503, Revision 4.0, effective 29 May 2026) set out three fare types, each paid in full at booking. Every change carries a change fee per passenger per leg, and the three fares differ in how late a change or cancellation is allowed.

FareChangesCancellationRefund or credit
RegularFlight, date, name and route changes up to 3 hours before scheduled departure, with a change feePermitted up to 3 hours before departureA cancelled ticket may be refunded, with a refund fee per booking, or held in credit; credit is used within 12 months of the booking date
ChoiceUp to 24 hours before scheduled departure, with a change fee; the new fare must be of equal or higher value, and the difference is paid on topPermitted up to 24 hours before departure, for a fee per passenger per legNon-refundable; a cancelled ticket may be held in credit, used within 12 months of the booking date
DealUp to 72 hours before scheduled departure, with a change fee; the new fare must be of equal or higher value, and the difference is paid on topNot permittedNot refundable

On all three fares, a passenger who misses the check-in deadline or does not turn up loses the fare. The Fare Rules give the same baggage allowance on each of the three fares.

Skytrans's Disrupt Policy (effective 1 July 2025) says that if Skytrans cancels a flight, or notifies a delay or schedule change of more than two hours more than 24 hours before departure, a passenger who does not accept the change may move to another available Skytrans flight on the same route or cancel the booking for a refund or a credit.

Skytrans check-in, identification and children

Skytrans's Terms and Conditions say check-in closes 45 minutes before the scheduled departure time at Aurukun, Bamaga, Kowanyama, Lockhart River and Pormpuraaw airports, and 30 minutes before at all other airports. Bamaga is served by Northern Peninsula Airport. A passenger who does not check in before closure cannot travel, and the fare is not refundable.

Online check-in is on Skytrans's booking site and needs the six-character reservation number and the passenger's last name. Passengers who have checked in online must still present their bags at the check-in counter before it closes.

Skytrans requires identification at check-in, and its Terms ask passengers to contact Skytrans before departure with any question about which identification it accepts.

Skytrans treats a passenger under 2 as an infant, 2 to 11 as a child, and 12 and over as an adult. Infants and children travel with a parent or with a passenger aged 15 or over.

Skytrans baggage allowance

Skytrans has two baggage allowances, one for flights to or from Lord Howe Island and one for all other flights. The figures below are what Skytrans currently allows under its Terms and Conditions (effective 24 July 2026), and its Fare Rules repeat them. Check the allowance with Skytrans before you fly.

Flights to or from Lord Howe Island

Carry-on baggage is two items up to 7 kg total combined weight. Checked baggage is one main item up to 14 kg and one additional item up to 9 kg.

Skytrans says that, because of operational restrictions at Lord Howe Island, the additional item may not be carried on the same flight, and it asks customers to pack all essential belongings in their main item.

All other Skytrans flights

Carry-on baggage is two items up to 7 kg total combined weight. Checked baggage is two items up to 20 kg total combined weight, and the allowance applies per seat-occupying passenger.

Bag sizes, mobility aids and alcohol

A carry-on bag may measure up to 23 cm wide, 34 cm high and 48 cm long, and a checked bag must not exceed 140 cm in total dimensions (height plus width plus length). Items over 32 kg or 140 cm must be booked as freight.

Wheelchairs, other mobility aids and strollers do not count towards the baggage allowance. Skytrans carries baggage on the same flight where possible, and otherwise it may go on the next available flight.

Skytrans's Terms say alcohol management programmes are in place in many Cape York communities and that Skytrans will not carry passengers with alcohol on flights into those communities.
