Launceston Airport (LST) is 15 kilometres south of Launceston on the Evandale Main Road, 3 kilometres from the Midland Highway junction and 5 kilometres north of Evandale. The airport company is Australian Pacific Airports (Launceston) Pty Ltd. The airport has one terminal building, with a Check-in Hall, a Departures Hall, the Gate Lounge and an Arrivals Hall.
The airport says there are currently no public buses to or from Launceston Airport, so plan on a minibus transfer, an Uber, a taxi or a rental car. Travellers arriving in Tasmania are also subject to Biosecurity Tasmania's rules, which do not permit fresh fruit and vegetables to enter the state.
The airlines recorded on direct domestic flights from Launceston Airport include Link Airways, Jetstar, Qantas and Virgin Australia. Direct domestic flights recorded from Launceston go to these destinations, with the airlines recorded on each:
| Destination | Airport | Airlines recorded |
|---|---|---|

| Brisbane | Brisbane Airport (BNE) | Jetstar, Virgin Australia |
| Canberra | Canberra Airport (CBR) | Link Airways, Virgin Australia |
| Melbourne | Melbourne Airport (MEL) | Jetstar, Qantas, Virgin Australia |

Link Airways announced flights between Launceston and Canberra from 6 May 2026. The airport's announcement of the service says Link Airways has a codeshare partnership with Virgin Australia.
Biosecurity Tasmania asks travellers to leave fresh food and other restricted items at home before travelling to Tasmania, and to dispose of or declare restricted items on arrival. Plants, plant products, animals and animal products brought into the state must be presented for inspection at the biosecurity barrier, which can be an airport. Requirements may change, so check Biosecurity Tasmania's food rules before you pack.
In a November 2025 release, the Tasmanian Government said new produce x-ray machines had been installed at Hobart Airport and Launceston Airport to detect biosecurity risk matter in travellers' hand luggage. It said detector dogs focus on baggage from the carousel, while staff use the x-ray machines for passengers at the arrival gate.
Fresh fruit and vegetables, including potatoes, fresh herbs, garlic, ginger and onion, are not permitted entry to Tasmania. Plant-based foods are allowed if they are cooked, baked, hard frozen, canned, preserved, commercially dried, freeze dried, or cooked and then dehydrated at home. Fruit and vegetables dehydrated at home from the raw state are not permitted.
| Food | Biosecurity Tasmania's rule |
|---|---|
| Fresh fruit and vegetables | Not permitted entry. Declare, and inspection is required |
| Meat of farm animals, poultry, birds and game | Allowed if killed in Australia for personal consumption or commercially produced. Declare, and it may be inspected if requested |
| Honey | Allowed only if commercially filtered to the pore size the rule sets, and free of wax pieces and bee parts. Unfiltered honey is not permitted unless it was commercially produced in Tasmania and is in its original, sealed packaging, and honeycomb not produced in Tasmania is not permitted |
| Fish and seafood | Allowed if the species can be identified, it is dead, and the outer packaging is clearly labelled with its scientific and common names. Abalone, dead or alive, and abalone products are not permitted, some fish are on a Restricted Fish List with separate requirements, and canned fish is allowed |
| Processed food, such as dairy, nuts, edible seeds, baked goods and drinks | Allowed if identifiable, it cannot grow plants, and it is clean of bugs, soil and disease. Nuts or seeds that are not dried, with green material, are not permitted |
Jetstar check-in opens 120 minutes before the scheduled departure, and Qantas, Virgin Australia and Link Airways check-in opens 90 minutes before. Qantas, Jetstar and Virgin Australia passengers use the self-serve kiosks and auto bag drop: select your airline, scan your passport, and enter your booking reference or scan a mobile boarding pass, and the bag tags print. Bags go in one at a time, on their side, with the tag facing up.
Link Airways passengers check in at the northern end of the Check-in Hall: look for the Link Airways logo. Bring photo identification: Link Airways ground staff check your baggage and issue the boarding pass and bag tag, and you then go through security.
Everyone entering the secure areas is screened, including passengers, people going with them to the gate, crew and staff, and a passenger who declines screening cannot go through to the boarding gate. The screening point uses body scanners and x-ray machines. A laptop can stay in your bag unless you are carrying more than one, and there is a special assistance lane.
The airport recommends carrying a doctor's letter for prescription or non-prescription liquids, aerosols, gels or powders.
Parents' rooms and water refill stations are listed in the Check-in Hall, the Departures Hall, the Gate Lounge and the Arrivals Hall. Lifts run between the Departures Hall and the Gate Lounges, and a lift at the centre of the building, reached from the undercover walkway, goes up to Reception on Level 1. The meeting point is in the Arrivals Hall near the exit.
The airport says it follows the Disability Discrimination Act, and wheelchairs are available in the terminal. Help with boarding is arranged through your airline or travel agent, and the airport has a Hidden Disabilities Sunflower page.
The airport lists the food and retail outlets below with their opening hours, which may change.

In a release dated 22 April 2026, the airport said construction was underway on a new boarding gate, a 600 square metre expansion of the gate area and a complete renovation of Gates 3 and 4. It described these as the next phase of its departures upgrades, after the check-in hall, security screening point and departures hall were completed over the previous four years. The release does not give a completion date.
The airport names minibus transfers, Uber and taxis as the most convenient way to travel without your own or a rental vehicle, and says there are currently no public buses.
The taxi pick-up is outside the Arrivals Hall, and Taxi Combined Launceston can be pre-booked through its app. Taxi surcharges apply on Saturday, Sunday and public holidays.
The Uber rank is to the left outside the Arrivals Hall, near baggage claim. You can also book an Uber by phone without the app, on 13 82 37 between 5am and 8pm, either on demand or up to 90 days ahead. Other rideshare and chauffeur services need a permit to pick up in the Commercial Lane.
Wild Island Airport Transfers handles larger group transfers, and pre-booking of its scheduled transfers is essential. Launceston Airport Shuttles & Transfers runs door to door between the airport, Launceston's central business district, outer suburbs and regional towns such as Evandale, Longford, Cressy, Carrick and Bracknell.
Rental companies are in the Arrivals Hall, and the companies the airport lists include Budget, Europcar, Hertz, Redspot and Sixt. The rental operators at the airport do not accept bookings for pick-up after 9pm, so if a delayed flight lands after 9pm, contact your rental company directly. Campervan rental has its own page on the airport's website.
The pick-up and drop-off zone is beside the Short Stay car park, and the lane closest to the terminal is for commercial vehicles only. At the front of the terminal a vehicle must be attended at all times and can stay for a maximum of 1 minute, and an unattended vehicle may be towed and receive an infringement notice. The airport suggests allowing 15 to 30 minutes for a passenger to leave the aircraft and collect their luggage.
The airport's parking page says pre-booking is not available: your vehicle registration is used to calculate payment, and you pay by tap at the exit boom gate or at the pay machines outside Arrivals or in the P2 car park. P1 Premium is undercover, a two-minute walk to the Check-in Hall along a covered walkway, and Long Stay parking is a three to five minute walk from the terminal. Parking in the P3 Short Stay car park is free for 30 minutes, once each day.
The airport says there are currently no public buses to or from Launceston Airport. Launceston Airport Shuttles & Transfers runs door to door to Launceston's central business district and outer suburbs, and taxis and Uber pick up outside the Arrivals Hall.
The airport's check-in guide gives 120 minutes before the scheduled departure for Jetstar, and 90 minutes for Qantas, Virgin Australia and Link Airways. Check your airline's own advice before you fly.
