Airnorth is a regional airline headquartered in Darwin. At Perth Airport (PER) it uses Terminal 3, and each of its fares (Air Sale, Air Saver and Air Flex) includes checked baggage and food and non-alcoholic drinks. Some Airnorth flights are also sold as Qantas codeshares, and a booking made on a Qantas ticket changes how you check in and whom you call.

Terminals at Perth, Darwin, Cairns, Townsville and Alice Springs

Perth Airport: Terminal 3

Perth Airport's own terminal guide lists Airnorth at Terminal 3. Terminals 3 and 4 share one precinct and Terminals 1 and 2 sit in another, a 10 minute drive away, with an accessible terminal transfer bus running between the two.

Perth Airport notes that a number of airlines operate from more than one terminal, so check the terminal on your itinerary before you go. Taxi and rideshare services use each terminal's own forecourt.

Darwin International Airport

In Darwin, Airnorth's home city, Darwin International Airport (DRW) has one terminal for both domestic and international flights. Check-in, security screening, arrivals and baggage claim are on the ground floor.

Cairns, Townsville and Alice Springs

Cairns Airport (CNS) has two passenger terminals, an international terminal (T1) and a domestic terminal (T2), joined by a covered walkway. Check the departure terminal on your Airnorth itinerary.

Townsville Airport (TSV) has one terminal. Alice Springs Airport (ASP) also has one terminal, with check-in and security on the ground floor, and screens near the terminal entry show where each airline's check-in desk is.

Airnorth's fare rule pages for Air Sale and Air Saver say payment is required at booking and that the credit from a cancelled booking can be used for travel anywhere on the Airnorth network. Its Air Flex fare rule page says the fare is fully refundable before and on the day of scheduled departure and that date changes are permitted.

Airnorth's fare rules refer to the Australian Consumer Law and Airnorth's Conditions of Carriage for cases where you are entitled to a refund or alternative flight. Changes are made by phoning Airnorth Reservations on 1800 627 474 within Australia, and some can also be made online through Manage My Booking.

Airnorth Reservations is open weekdays 7:00am to 7:00pm and Saturdays 8:00am to 4:30pm, Australian Central Standard Time, and is closed on Sundays and public holidays.

Checking in for an Airnorth flight

Airnorth's conditions of carriage ask passengers on domestic flights to check in at least 60 minutes and no later than 30 minutes before departure, and a passenger who has not checked in by those times is not permitted to travel. Web check-in opens 24 hours before the scheduled departure.

Passengers with checked baggage, passengers with special needs and unaccompanied minors check in at the airport, and some routes are excluded from web check-in. Airnorth's conditions also say passengers travelling on Qantas or other carrier travel documents cannot use web check-in, and that photo identification may be asked for at the gate.

Identification

For domestic flights, Airnorth's conditions of carriage list the only acceptable forms of photographic identification, all valid at the time of travel: a national passport, a driver's licence issued under Commonwealth, State or Territory law, an identifying document issued by the Commonwealth, a State or Territory or an authority of one, or an aviation security identification card.

Children and unaccompanied minors

Airnorth's booking form treats infants as under 2, children as under 12 and adults as 12 and over, and its fare rules allow one infant per adult. A child who is not travelling with an adult is treated as an unaccompanied minor and is booked through Airnorth Reservations on 1800 627 474.

As a guideline, Airnorth regards children not yet five as unable to travel on their own, and says an accompanying passenger should generally be at least 15. An unaccompanied minor has to be at the airport no later than 60 minutes before a domestic departure, and is escorted if under 12.

Airnorth's unaccompanied children page gives its own identification list for children: a current passport, a current student identification card with a photo, a birth certificate, or a statutory declaration from a school, doctor or police.

Special assistance

Airnorth asks for its assistance form to be emailed at least 72 hours before travel, and says assistance dogs are welcome. Airnorth says the aircraft stairs are used where an airport does not have a Disabled Person Lift available.

Airnorth baggage allowance

Checked baggage

As of October 2026, Airnorth's checked baggage page says every fare class on its Embraer E170 and E190 jets includes a 20 kg checked baggage allowance for each adult and child (infants excepted), with no single piece over 32 kg. On the Embraer E120 the allowance differs, and it is set out on Airnorth's checked baggage page. Check the allowance for your booking with Airnorth before you fly.

The same page allows two child items of up to 10 kg each (a car seat, or a collapsible stroller or pushchair) in addition to a child's allowance, and up to three infant items, 20 kg in total, for an infant.

Airnorth warns that from time to time payload restrictions mean baggage cannot travel on the passenger's own flight, and in that case it is carried on the next available flight.

Carry-on baggage

On the Embraer E170, Airnorth's carry-on allowance is 9 kg in one piece of baggage of 115 cm in total dimensions (56 cm + 36 cm + 23 cm), plus one small personal item. For its other aircraft, check Airnorth's carry-on baggage page before you pack.

Dangerous goods

Airnorth's dangerous goods rules allow alcoholic drinks in baggage in retail packaging, up to 5 litres per person, with no more than 70% alcohol.

Qantas codeshare flights operated by Airnorth

Qantas's own page on Airnorth says you can fly within Australia on Qantas codeshare flights operated by Airnorth. To earn Qantas Points and Status Credits, Qantas says to choose an eligible Airnorth flight with a Qantas (QF) flight number and enter your Frequent Flyer number when you book, and the points are added within 15 days after the flight.

On a codeshare, Qantas says the operating carrier is responsible for checking in customers on Qantas codeshare services. Airnorth's contact page asks Qantas codeshare passengers to contact Qantas on 13 13 13.

Airnorth service changes since March 2024

In a release of 19 August 2026, Airnorth added services from September 2026 on its Darwin to Tennant Creek, Tennant Creek to Alice Springs and Perth to Alice Springs routes, as a trial through to 22 December 2026. In a release of 18 August 2026, it extended its seasonal Kununurra to Perth service, which returned on 28 March 2026, through to 19 December 2026.

Airnorth's Cairns to Alice Springs service began in April 2025 on its Embraer E190 jets, and its direct Alice Springs to Perth flights were launched in March 2024.

Flying into Western Australia: quarantine

Airnorth flights into Western Australia from the Northern Territory or Queensland arrive under Western Australia's quarantine rules. Western Australia's Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) says quarantine risk material must be declared to a Quarantine Inspector on arrival, and that if you are in doubt about an item you declare it or put it in one of the bins at the airport.

DPIRD says inspectors with sniffer dogs may check your baggage and hand luggage as you collect it from the carousel. Fruit and vegetables must be free of sprouting green growth, soil, pests and disease, and honey is prohibited unless certified on a Health Certificate; the rest is on DPIRD's page on what you can bring into Western Australia.

Uncertified citrus and stone fruit are not allowed into the Ord River Irrigation Area at Kununurra from 1 April to 30 November each year, a measure against Mediterranean fruit fly.

Aboriginal land in the Northern Territory: permits and alcohol

The Northern Territory Government says you do not need an entry permit to directly access airstrips, landing places, main access roads into major communities or public areas within communities on Aboriginal land. The Northern Land Council's permits page says Commonwealth and Northern Territory law requires a written permit for entry to Aboriginal land, and that the council administers the permit system for traditional owners in the Top End.

For the Gove region, Airnorth says a visitors permit is needed to visit most areas, and that it can be obtained from the Northern Land Council in Nhulunbuy or from the Dhimurru Aboriginal Corporation.

The Northern Territory Government also says that on Aboriginal land, unless allowed by permit, alcohol is banned.

Airnorth's history, ownership and aircraft

Airnorth describes itself as having started in charter flying in the Northern Territory and grown into regular passenger services across northern Australia, later adding Queensland and Perth. It says it continues to operate contract and ad-hoc charter services, and it keeps its headquarters in Darwin, with an administration office at 4 Lancaster Road, Marrara.

Bristow's own About page says Bristow Helicopters Australia owns a 100% interest in Airnorth.

Airnorth's fleet page lists Embraer E190 and E170 jets and the Embraer E120 Brasilia turboprop. In February 2026 Airnorth announced a multi-year support agreement with Embraer covering its E170 and E190 fleet.
